Opinions on this "Salvage" titled car?
Opinions on this
I am curious how much this car will sell for https://www.auctionexport.com/en/Inv...ID=-1887527521 Not sure what all the issues with it are, but the ad states: PrimaryDamage:ELECTRICAL SecondaryDamage:REPOSSESSION It appears that the rear windows will not go up, the top does not latch, and someone has been messing in the fuse box between the rear seats. What do you think about this car? |
Did you note that it is for transport outside of North America, which means that exporting it to Canada is not possible (but why?). Could it have been water damaged, thus the electrical issues?
|
My guess is water damage too. It would pass.
|
Holy smokes! Could you imagine the cost of replacing every single module in a flood-damaged car? And then, after you get the modules all replaced and programmed, the connectors all start corroding, little-by-little.
|
I wouldn't touch it.
|
"Electrical / Repossession"..... doesn't state the actual TITLE CONDITION.
Is it actually titled as SALVAGE? If it is, then $20k is on the high end, regardless of actual condition. |
Run Forest, RRRUUUUUNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!
Just my thoughts. Jack |
I don't know if it was a flood car or not. But usually if it is, it will be stated in the ad, so ???

My main concern would be did the car’s low ground clearance and dual intakes act as a vacuum cleaning and suck up water into the engine?

On further investigation, this site is showing it has a "Clear" SC title...

If I don't end up buying this car I'm pretty sure it is going to turn up for sale on Auto-trader or such within a few months with an asking price around $40K.
Oh, well at least I'll record the VIN here for reference... SAJWA4EC5EMB54001 |
I wonder, if perhaps the owner knowing it was about to be repossessed, decided to sabotage the car for spite?
|
I'm more concerned about why it must be export sale only.

I did see that, however I do not think that is the case. Most states including SC have a salvage or rebuilt title for this type of car.

As well I believe this car has a "Clear" SC title, so no worries at all about registration in any area. I was not the high bidder, but it looks like it got to ~$26K + auction fees, which would make it at about $27K + taxes. I do think this car will show up on Autotrader or Cars.com in the next few months, and probably with an asking price of over $40K. IMHO it was well bought @$27K, with the low miles and seemingly minor problems (but without having a PPI who knows what else may be problematic with it.) |

Buy it, the insurance company does not want it, the owner let it get repossessed, the folks in the auto industry are auctioning it off and dont think its worth fixing, you have not inspected it and the damage is not visible, the govt does not want it sold anywhere in this continent where it could make its way back.
What could possibly go wrong, I say the risk is very low for the right sucker. |
Great car to export to Eastern Europe and recondition.
