P0193 code won’t turn off - RESOLVED

Hello peeps
hope alls well
so long story short I got a CEL on in the 2008 Jaguar XK. After looking up code, Firestone recommended I change the fuel pressure regulator sensor. In doing so in the code went away but later returned after a 10 mile drive.
vehicle is not showing any more symptoms of sputtering or scent of fuel but the darn CLE light won’t stay off.
Firestone has replaced the fuel pressure regulator with two different brands available and when ahead and swapped out the “piggy clip” that attaches to the FPR but still no luck.
any ideas or recommendations as to what could be going on? Hopefully somebody in this jaguar community has gone through similar situation.
thanks in advance for any n all help!

With the ignition in the OFF position for at least ten minutes, what is the voltage across the battery terminals?

dag82 06-16-2018 02:09 PM

Thank you for the reply. I’ll ask them to check. But The battery is rather new purchase within the last 3months.
thanks again

Age doesn't seem to matter, use does. If you don't use the car regularly you run the risk of oddball codes popping up. Per the voltage check, do it after it sits overnight with a cheap Harbor Freight voltmeter or even a cigar lighter style will work if you hit the start button without hitting the brakes to turn on the electronics.

Update
they changed out the “fuel temperature sensor” as well and the CEL has now turned off!!!
Thankfully 😅
Thanks for any and all replies guys!!!

P0193 is a single code with no associated extended codes.

I always wonder why repairers are so keen to jump straight to component replacement before eliminating circuit faults. :icon_lol:

Very few understand how it all works together...

DAG82
PLEASE ADVISE , before changing “fuel temperature sensor”, did you get and code for trouble of “fuel temperature sensor”, ?
any CEL turned on due to trouble of “fuel temperature sensor”, ?
thanks
chow

Yes P0193
Excuse my late reply
Hope this helps
happy holidays

I'm trying to diagnose my P0193 code also. You're saying changing the Fuel Temp Sensor fixed this problem?

I don't see how that would work.

Only guessing that he meant Pressure sensor, not temp sensor.

I scrolled through a few threads on this and found this link for a bit of DIY without SDD:

Ok so I think I got it straightened out.

Did voltage tests and got 5V at both Input and VRef pins:

Checked for continuity at the ground and it looked good. Not sure if was doing the resistance test for the ground wire correctly but here is what I got. Maybe someone can chime in and let me know if this is to high but I think it's good.

Tests seems to be good so I looked at the wires themselves and realized the original setup has that harness pinched under the coolant line. I taped one of the wires to make sure it wasn't rubbing, and repositioned the harness ABOVE the coolant line:

So far so good. Haven't seen the code pop back up for a few days now.

Well your code hasn't returned so you might want to go with "it ain't broke now so don't fix it", but your continuity to ground should be 0 ohms. I assume when you touch the two test leads together you get 0 ohms? If so, then proceed to place one test lead in the BG pin and the other to a chassis bolt. Should read 0.

The code I was getting didn't mention a short to ground or a high resistance ground, so just by that logic, and good continuity I have to assume the ground is good.

I think the resistance is up because the electrical guide was saying you have to disconnect the battery and let it sit for a few minutes before doing resistance tests, otherwise youll get false readings.

Either way thanks for the info, I'll just leave it as-is and come back if it re-appears.

P0193

I am New to the site, sorry no intention to steal this post but didn't find how to start new thread. My 04 xk8 has same p0193 code. It starts good, runs good, highway speed also good, but don't have the thrust as my previous same car had. Have to push hard throttle sometime to the floor to feel it. Fuel rail pressure on scanner is 54psi which seems normal when engine is running. The fuel gauge is playing up, going up and down. The fuel sensor or regulator seem good too as the pressure is good on scanner? Is it something with fuel filter? Or pump? Thanks

JagV8 10-28-2019 02:37 PM

The doc (free to download) show it substitutes a fixed value so unless you read using a physical gauge just ignore the value.

Troubleshoot the fault :)
