Is it possible to reset a new cooling fan without bringing it in for an ECM reset?
 

2010 XK Coupe - Is it possible to reset a new cooling fan without bringing it in for an ECM reset? I put the new fan in but there are warnings that the ECM must be reset? Any ideas? Connected new with Battery disconnected ahead of time but cant seem to get it to operate/ Will overheat and no fan activity

Sounds odd - where are those warnings?

The "in order to erase the previous failure code" suggests that only the failure code needs to be cleared. Any OBD2 unit can do this. Also, disconnecting the battery SHOULD also accomplish the clear, but maybe not from memory.
I'm not going to guarantee this info for liability purposes, but that's what I get from the tag.

Question: how does "not clearing the code result in failure of new part"?

I don't believe the bit on the 5th bullet point about failing to clear the code causing damage to the new part. But... can't prove it's untrue.

If the fault code is in the PCM (aka ECM) then as has been posted any OBD II tool can clear it.
