Default Rare XKR 175 for under $25k in California! :-O

Hey guys,

As you know, I've been on the hunt for my perfect XK. I narrowed the search down to two (and a Maserati Gran Turismo) when I stumbled across an ad on one of the dealer scrapers that just went up tonight.

It's for a 2011 Jaguar XKR 175 - the fastest XKR you can get, outside of the S and S GT models. This is the 510bhp 5.0l supercharged model.
Built in commemoration for the 75th anniversary, this model was limited to only 175 made in the US, so this is pretty exclusive. It only came in one color, a one-off metallic black shade, and the interior was done in black with red stitching. The electronic speed limiters of the Jaguar XKR 175 were updated to 175MPH, which is what makes them the fastest. They also had some unique "aero improvements" which I believe are the rocker panels and minor updates to the rear and front chin. It also had exclusive rims and red brake calipers.
Video review of the 2011 Jaguar XKR 175 here:

This one only has 47,000 miles, which is not bad in my book.

Anyway, I passed on it because black just isn't what I'm looking for, but I figured I'd pass it on to the group here for anyone else hungry for a new toy!

A couple of things to note: the car has a rebranded title where the factory bought it back under a California lemon law, and then fixed the issue and resold it. I called the dealership and spoke to Gustavo about the car and the nature of the issue. He said that under California lemon law, an owner can return a car within 30 days or if a problem has occurred and been attempted to fix 3 times. He said that because the cars are made in England, sometimes getting the parts needed to fix the car within that time period is difficult, so some owners elect to return the car. To get the rebrand title, the manufacturer has to fix the issue before it can resell it. He pulled the Carfax and said it was an engine noise; it mentions that a hose was swapped and he said they have not heard the noise since they've had the car.

Take it for what you will, but I've had rebuilt title cars in the past and not had any issues, and a rebrand is less of an issue held to a higher standard of repair. It seems like a great deal

The top speed was actually 174mph which is the same as any other XKR that was specified with the Speed Pack.

Damn, and I just bought a vette over the weekend - would have loved to picked up this XKR.

Oh dang, TIL. I wonder if the speed pack came out after the 175? Because the videos I watched on it agreed it was the fastest, but I know the XKR-S and GT models launched after.

They were both released for the 2011 model year but you could argue that the Speed Pack was first because it made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 2nd, 2010 and the press release for the 175 is dated October 12, 2010

It looks nice, but a scary CarFax report.

You have a Cliff notes version? Saw it was on the NJ lemon law list from the VIN#. Makes you wonder what the rest of the story is.

Looks like some dingbat in NJ entered the wrong VIN in a nationwide database...

WOW!! The selling dealer payed $15,500 for this?? They definitely got lucky. For someone who doesn't care all that much about a branded title (whatever the case may be with that, it's very uncommon for manufacturer buybacks to happen on older vehicles), this would be a great deal.

Where did you pull pricing info?? That would be so helpful for more deals.

I asked my brother-in-law, who is a classic car dealer if he could look into auction results for XKR 175's. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't hard to find that car at all (miles, date, color, location all sync up to the dealer and the Carfax report).

It's called Manheim Market Report. It's a dealer database that shows what cars sell for at auction. You can go by VIN (which is what I sent over to my brother-in-law), or by year/make/model. I'd be happy to help where I can.

I've been in the market for an XKR ever since I sold my 2012 coupe. Now I have a meticulous 29k mile black/black C6 Z06 Corvette I'd be willing to trade for a 2010+ XKR. The storage/cargo situation doesn't seem to be jiving well, but the power is awesome. Plus rowing through those gears is always nice too

What are your parameters? There's a 2010 XKR in my local market right now at right around $25k. Silver on black. I test drove it last week. It had a slight AC issue and breaks were sluggish - I mentioned it to the dealer (a small private guy who does this as a side hobby) and he mentioned he'd take care of both. It's got a scratch on the door and the rear bumper, but if the price is right, you could get those fixed on your own. They sold a black 2010 XKR the week before.

I definitely want a lighter color like the silver one you're talking about. I miss my Polaris White. Sub 50k miles, coupe, documented service history (how I buy all of my cars), and good paint.

I'd really like to get rid of my Z06 first (it's for sale on a ton of forums, Hemmings, Craigslist, 500hp+, etc) or preferably find someone with an XKR looking for a fully documented well cared for factory Z06.

I would not be concerned with the NJ entry as that is where their HQ is and if they bought it back that is where it would be titled--IOW they owned it twice but titled it once.
