Removing speed warning
 

Hi everyone,


My XK gives a warning above 120km/h on the central dash.. which.. (since its no longer required by law) I want to remove.. but the dealer cannot find it.. does someone know how to remove it ?

The warning is related to the ASL switch on the console: 120 kmph is the speed at which the ASL was set - so, if all is operating normally, you should simply be able to press the ASL button and dismiss the warning - that is, unless your car was prepared for a specific market which requires something different. Or have I misunderstood the problem?

Sov211, he's got a different issue. it is a legal requirement in some countries for the car to give a warning (and in some, like Singapore, to chime continuously and annoyingly) whenever you exceed an arbitrary speed.

Parzival, it's got to be in the Jag diagnostic system menus somewhere (it isn't accessible via the car's own interface). If the dealer doesn't know, perhaps try another dealer - or contact Jaguar directly, explain that your dealer needs help, and ask if they can provide guidance. There is some possibility that it's a non-optional feature of your car's software, i.e. all UAE builds have the warning locked on, but that would be a bit odd.

Yeah indeed.. its a legal requirement and not the ASL.. luckily it doesn't ping every second like the cheaper Nissan models do in the UAE..


Indeed we couldn't find it in the regular console, but also did not see an option for it in the Diagnostics Menu.. although I don't know if the garage looked that good.. but they managed to activate my Aux input and replace the entire SCM2 for SCM3 alarm.. so I guess they kinda know what they are doing ;) ..


Was hoping other people experienced the same and knew which option I should disable/enable..

I don't think we have many UAE members on here, and that's the only place where that 120km/h warning exists, so I doubt there's much prior knowledge - I'd suggest asking Jaguar directly. Their customer service people are pretty helpful.

If the car was bought in the UAE, and is still in the UAE, what's "cross market" about that? You're not asking to have it removed because you want to take the car elsewhere. If you're sure it is no longer a legal requirement in the UAE (and I can't actually find any evidence of that, by the way), there should be no reason for them to refuse to remove it.

No I actually brought it with me to the Netherlands.. so its now under EU law..

Ahhh, understand - unfortunately, Jaguar isn't going to play ball in those circumstances.

It seems to me that Jaguar's response is geared to those people who are trying to make a profit by buying a Jaguar in one market and reselling it in a different market where pricing is significantly higher. If I recall correctly when I acquired my 12 vert I was required to sign a document to the effect that I was buying the car to use in the United States.

Therefore, perhaps if you advised Jaguar that you have moved from the UAE to the Netherlands on a permanent basis and moved the car with you they will relent. The argument for this is that it borders on being ridiculous if one has to buy a vehicle every time they move cross border. That would be my approach having received a response like you did. Why not give it a shot? the worst thing that can happen is you get the same answer and nothing really lost, and you just might prevail. Good luck!!

Its quite tricky to get around this one. Without having full access to the ECM, I don't see an easy solution.
One option would be to voltage clamp the incoming speed signal which is usually 0-150Hz from speed sensor. This is a way to eliminate the speed limiter as well. However, I need to look at the wiring and see if the speed sensor feeds to the ecm and the cluster separately. If the cluster is controlled by the ecm output, you could eliminate the display note but the gauge would not function past where you clamp the voltage.
If they are separate and the ecm signals the warning, you could voltage clamp to the ecm and this would prevent the signal warning to the cluster.
I'm not sure of a way around this other than that.

It could be that the market specification programmed into the car dictates if it has the speed limiter chime.

Somehow you have to reprogram the car with a different market specification.

I don't think this is in the ECU, it's probably in the Vehicle Identification Block (VID), or maybe it's called the Car Configuration File (CCF).

Try getting in contact with Moscow Leaper here on the forum, he knows about this stuff.
