Default shifter console swap….. 2007XK

Hi everyone, need to tap into the forums knowledge base…..I quite like the look of the 2010 xk center console with the round style gear selector. Does anyone know if a swap could be done to integrate it to an 07' XK. Not sure if I actually would do it, just curious at this point. Thx.

The interface electronics and control protocol are completely different. It would be extremely difficult to perform this swap.

Thanks for the response White XKR. I was hoping for some 'simple slice n dice' in the wiring. Oh well….

I've moved this from General Tech Help to XK/XKR forum. You won't be alone in considering this upgrade.

Nothing in these cars (or any other high-end modern car) is simple. I think I counted 23 separate electronics modules, each of which is effectively a small computer, and they all talk to each other. It's difficult to interfere with the systems in any way.

Ergonomics teaches us that a moving lever is vastly superior to a knob..........that's why I will never buy the latest Jaguar models.
Airbus's fly by Knob! If it's not Boeing I'm not going!
Just my very strong opinion !
Be glad you can't screw your '07 up!!

Cheers, Adrian

Well, in MY opinion, the old-timey shifter looks almost ghetto in a $100,000+ automobile. I love my dial, and since I only use it 2-4 times every time I drive, I don't want an ugly stick poking its ridiculousness into my cabin 100% of the time. Antiquated pooh is what it is.

I'm, on board with Britannia... Im hoping for a second gen XKR soon, but have to admit I dislike the hockey puck, and the extra fake chrome "bling" on all the knobs and switches.
I'll live with it of course, but would love to see a retrofit back to the first gen configuration.

Huh!, If I had my way, I'd have a Hurst shifter in a 6 speed with a big white ball!
....

Given that I only use the knob when backing up or shifting to go forward, it is secondary for me. I use the paddles far more and with them the stick seems almost superfluous. I had the stick on my 08 and very seldom used it other than going into and out of park and reverse.

It would be interesting to see what was done to the electronics on the racing XKR that was posted a while back. How did they separate the transmission module out of the circuit in order to use a manual transmission. Did they re-engineer the ECM to not require the transmission data to be used. I wonder what they did.

They have a Cosworth Pectel SQ6 ECU, which I don't think takes any info from the Hewland DTM 6-speed transaxle.

But the FTYPE doesn't have a knob!

And I LOVE the look and feel of the stick and despise the knob. To each his own!

But the F Type doesn't have back seats for the little people. Even my 1956 XK140
had them!
However, the F type does drive very well except don't like the engine auto shut down feature; really faked me out!
Will just keep my wallet in my pocket; just love my '07 Radiance Coupe..................what a gorgeous colour.

Cheers,Adrian

You can turn off the auto shutdown by pushing the "on/off" button on the dash.
