Should Jaguar do a recall on water pumps?

Just how significant is the water pump problem with XK's and what model years does it impact?

Not sure if there is a statistical criteria for recalls? I have seen more than enough posts on these forums where members indicated water pump issues. On the other hand, my 5 late Jaguars, (2 w/4.2, 3 w/5.0 engines) thus far had no water pump issues.

Most issues I had seen could be, or were resolved after spotting signs of minor water leaks. Only a very limited number resulted in vehicle disabling scenarios. Unless a safety or statistical justification could be made, I am sure Jaguar will not volunteer a recall.

Similar problems with the 4.0L XK8's and no recall; Jag took 3 tries to get it right! My wife's XK8 now has latest pump................I don't expect a recall from Jaguar this time either.

I would say Choose your battles carefully!

I can afford and can change a water pump with little problems. It's a cheap and easy to get part.

I would much rather have a recall for the bubbling leather dash pads as that is expensive.

A cooked engine is certainly expensive too! I say make it 2 recalls, water pump and dash leather.

The 4.2 engine does not have a water pump problem. That is specific to the 5.0 litre cars (and the 4.0 litre!)

Chalk one up for me. We purchased the 2010 XFR on 12/1/2013 with 25K on the clock. Within months, the sunroof had come loose and water was entering the car and running down under the passenger seat shorting out 5 computer modules. $3200 repair estimate. Jaguar NA did agree to a Good Will repair and my cost was $500 to the dealer. Within a month of that repair, the passenger seat heating/cooling function failed. $650 blower motor estimate. Not covered by dealer who just removed the seat for the sunroof repair. Now 6 months later, the water pump has failed. No interest from Jaguar NA to address the issue. $885 repair estimate from dealer. I am getting out of this car immediately. Good luck to the rest of you.

I can tell you I've owned a lot of cars and this car is just not worth the cost of ownership. The stigma of this car being poorly engineered with low quality control is well deserved.

'Recalls' are for safety related issues. No safety issue here. If the OEM warranty is expired, any action on Jag's part on the pump would be a goodwill issue only.

Nobody said these cars would be cheap to own or repair.

There is a difference between cheap and reasonable. 2016 CTS-V in my future.

Add supercharger to the recall list. The spring prematurely eats away the spinal of the supercharge. A similar Eaton supercharger design in the Cadillac has this problem. Shows up on high mileage cars and makes the engine sound like it has a bunch of loose bolts. A voluntary recall should be done by Jaguar to fix these problems. However, this is no different than any other brand. Both the supercharger and water pump fix are not expensive. However, an over heating engine running with no water is expensive and there is no water temperature gauge in the XKR. XKR owners should regularly monitor water levels and consider installing a monitoring system such as the torque app.

The XKR water pump issue seems to be mostly on the MY2010 model but I believe it was mentioned there were some 2011 and 2012 as well???

I for one plan after a long trip coming up to have the water pump evaluated again and possibly replaced in my 2012 XKR as it will be over 25,000 miles at that point.

Its starting to make me NERVOUS.
