Am I missing something or will I just have to continue waiting for the idle rpms to drop to 750rpms

 

I fitted one with a tell tale under the bonnet - engine management plays a role, it's the cold start, and the initial high idle speed is part of the temperature process ecm also double pulses fuel at this point.

<chuckle> Or for that matter, where's the engine coolant temp? I imagine you could hook up a reader to the ODB port, but that's kinda annoying.

 

You raise an interesting point. Does the OBD have an output for oil temp?

As far as an oil temp gauge in any car I have ever owned - Nada! I recall seeing this on some Italian exotics and big rig trucks. Shoot, we don't even get oil pressure gages any longer. Not that it really matters much. The OBD does a better job of monitoring, reacting and protecting than a driver could ever do.

Be interesting to hear from folks who do have oil temp gages.
