Sorting out 2014 xk Coupe, questions?
 

I just got the XK coupe home to Virginia. Beautiful car, and a pleasure to drive! Badly, needs a bath and wax.!

Here are some observations:

1) I need a front license plate mounting bracket. Looking at the http://skenebrackets.com/ but open to other suggestions. What do the Maryland and Virginia Jaguar dealerships use?

2) I am getting some wind noise and water intrusion at the top rear of the drivers door window. Not horrible but noticeable. Any thoughts? Adjust the window or replace the gasket?

3) My car is equipped with 20" black "chrome" Orona OEM wheels, I would like to swap or buy some correct OEM chrome wheels, Any recommendations? Looking for suggestions for both styles and vendors.

I would do a hard reboot by unhooking the battery for a couple minutes to reset the window positions. However there's also some stuff that you need to do with the vert roof to reboot it and I do not know what's involved. Once powered up, with the doors closed you raise the windows and then hold the raise button a couple more seconds until the motor overload trips and that's how Jaguar decided to tell when the window is all the way up. Do the same for lowering and the windows will work correctly.

All four in nice shape, no curb rash or scracthes.

You need to look harder, I can see some bad curb scratches on this wheel!

Nice car and color but you're right it needs bright wheels. Not a fan of black as they always look dirty. Contrast is a good look for me. Enjoy the ride.

I would do some bright red caliper paint. I think that would bring the wheel wells to life and help define the wheels.

from the look of your wheel spat, the car came close to an 'Oh shit' moment. Mine did too only they nailed the panel...

Or bright yellow calipers......it would offset the two color scheme and make it pop. It is a nice looking ride though!

I think what you see on the wheel is photo glare, the edge around the valve stem is the only place with some rubbing.
So how is your front license plate mounted? Anyone?

MY front license plate is mounted (un)securely under the passenger seat. I've never been asked about it on the two times I've been stopped by L.E., and if I AM ever asked, I'll show it to the person and ASK how to mount it since there isn't a factory supplied mount. I will NOT drill into the front of my car. I don't have a plate on my F150 either. Never been stopped.
Yes, two plates are required in Utah.

I kept my plate under the seat until I was pulled over (this is Maryland), and was told he'd be looking for me.
Didn't want to drill holes in the front bumper. Jag makes some kind of bracket ~$50 to attach to the bumper, to which the license plate bolts into. In any event, instead of drilling holes, I attached the plate to the front with double sided molding tape. Been fine for >3 y, and is removeable without damage. Car came from Ohio, which does not require a front plate.

I'm not sure painting the brake calipers is really an attractive option. Usually, I would think "subtle" when it comes to things like that, but on that red car, I'm not so sure much will ever be "subtle". Gorgeous ride.

I mounted www.slybrackets.com on my large mesh grill 2014. These brackets are very well made and cost a bit more.

There are several companies that do chrome wheel exchanges, most located in California. Start with www.calchrome.com

You will ultimately discover that most other wheels will be a downgrade as XK wheels were not all made to the same sizes- this is one of the best.
You can have them painted silver or even polished for what a potential swap would cost.

So powder coat or strip and polish?

Just what is rattling in my braincase.

Powder Coat is more durable than conventional paint.

Powder Coat is a much bigger pain to remove should you change your mind again.
