Tire Questions

Are Dunlop's the only tire the factory offers on 20's? My car has them and they are very noisy, I can only imagine them at 5000+ miles.

Uneven wear is the cause of most noise. Be sure to keep a careful watch on alignment and tire rotation. I have read that feathering is a big noise generator and I'm sure Summer High Perf. tires are generally noisier than all season tires.

I have a new set of Summer Continentals on my car. They are just okay noise wise but their predecessors, also Contis, were a PITA noise wise due to poor maintenance. I really can't speak to Dunlops as it's been many years since I've had a set but I seriously doubt there is much diff between new Contis and new Dunlops.

Check out the tire ratings for your tires on TireRack.com. They do a noise comparison as part of their program but you will note that they have to force a point spread as there is not too much diff between tires in some categories. This will also inform you on what brands are avail in your size.

My 10 has the Dunlops on. I just went over 5k miles last month. I'm not particularly pleased with them in any respect. Mind you, mine have also gone lopsided and need replacing. I didn't have the heart to tell my wife I needed another 2k after I bought the car last year for tires/wheels. I'm seriously considering downsizing the rims to 19... or even 18 if I can get a way with it.

Thanks gents, considering my car has 40 miles on it I doubt it's a wear issue but an important thing to look out for in the future. I will check out the tire rack ratings for them; I'd bet it's not too good. When it's time for replacing I'll go for Michelin Pilots.

Amazing, the Dunlops are the most expensive by a wide margin and not the highest rated; the two user reviews are not very favorable.
