Nice photos. Boy, it's been a long time since I had my XKR on the track, I think I need to go back. Thanks for the inspiration.

While I ran my M3 at Atlanta Motorsports Park, I've only driven much slower E30s, MX-5s and an old RX-7 at Road Atlanta. The speeds that my XK would be capable of reaching on that track seems a bit intimidating.

Great pics!! I'd like to try this at VIR too. What session or group event did you drive under? Tar Heels? Did you have an instructor?

Malt,
The event was hosted by the Ferrari Club of America (Southeast Region) for two days. They do this every year. There are about 40-45 cars involved in three run groups. All groups have access to instructors but they were only required for novice track drivers, a.k.a. the "green group." I was blown away by the quality of the instructors: their resumes were jaw-dropping. Chuck Hawk was the chief instructor and he is excellent for the classroom time. The cars were extremely impressive: a Lotus 3-Eleven, a bunch of Ferraris: 488, 458, 430, 360 and variants. Lots of Porsches including 911 GT4/GT3's, a couple of V8 Vantages, a few Corvettes, etc. Only one Jag (mine.) It will be in March next year and you can find information on the Ferrari Club page (non-members can do the event too). You'd just have to confirm that they would allow your XK 'vert with the integrated rollover protection. Some clubs and some tracks will allow this, others won't. Hope you can go next year! Cheers, Peter |
