I almost bought this car, but found a beautiful showroom condition 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition instead at a great price with 13,500 miles.

I love the car and the XKR....I looked at new 2013 XKR at local Jag dealer listed at $108,000, best they would do was $102,950.....

There is rapid depreciation on these Jag's for the first 4 years, so if you can buy this at the right price, it is a great deal.

My advice to you in your car searching would be the following - -

• Before you are quick to settle on a 2010 XK, do some research on the 2009 XKR Portfolio special edition. Attached is a link describing the press kit release at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show -- read through it. These special edition Portfolio's were made in very low production numbers and are extremely rare.
• I personal think that the 2009 Portfolio editions (XK's and XJ's) will be sought after collectors cars in the future. Even though production volumes of baseline 2010 Jaguar XK's are relatively low compared to other automakers, they tend to be a dime a dozen finds. Go for the rarer Portfolio - the car will be that much more special.

I could be wrong but I think all of the 2010 XKs sent to the U.S. were "portfolio" editions. I know when I called Jaguar USA and gave them my serial number on my 2010 XK coupe they identified it as a "portfolio". This means as I understand it, it has the upgraded leather (soft grain) with contrasting stitching, leather covered dashboard, 16-way heated/cooled power seats, B&W 525W sound system and Bi-Xenont headlights. That was the joy of buying my XK - not having to pay extra for anything except the 20" kalimnos wheels (the only option on my car). This was really refreshing after visiting the Porsche and BMW showrooms. Something to also consider is that the 2010 XKs with the normally aspirated 5.0L has close to the performance of the 2006-2009 supercharged 4.2L XKRs.

2009 and pre-2009 Super V8 / R Portfolio editions were built in extremely limited numbers (like 140 total for the MY2009 XJ) and came with every available feature, thus there was no options list. These models were essentially a Vanden Plas plus the supercharged R, but with the addition of exclusive colors, exclusive interiors, leather stitching on the door casings, milled aluminum side vents, and special red Jaguar heritage badging on the wheel center caps.

Post 2009 Portfolio editions are more commonly available trim fare// easier to find// and about one trim upgrade or so from the baseline trim. They don't come with every feature and the trim package is even available on the XF.

Today's limited edition Jaguar XJ ULTIMATE is probably today's equivalent of the 2009 Super V8 / R Portfolio.

Also, in a few of the pictures, you can spot the rare Jaguar red heritage badging on the wheel center caps.

I recently bought (May 24th, 2013) a 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition, 2Dr Convertible, with 13,500 miles in showroom condition. The Portfolio is clearly marked on the inside door sill plates "PORTFOLIO" on both the driver and passenger side. In addition, on the rear of the Jag, it clearly states PORTFOLIO on the badge as shown in these photos. Options were very few which was the Alcon brakes with over sized crescent slotted rotors and 6 piston red calipers at an additional cost $5000. When new, The 2009 Portfolio Edition listed at $105,993 MSRP. Color was Shadow Gray only with choice of two interiors, Ivory or Charcoal seating with Cranberry twin stitching. The PE also had 20" Selena wheels. Only 200 imported to the USA and a PE has NO spare tire only an inflatable tire kit, because of the size of the brake calipers.

Beyond 2009, Jaguar offered the XKR with what is called a "Portfolio Luxury" package and is still available as an option on the 2013 XKR's. Cost of the 2013 option is about $8,000-10,000 extra, thus lifting the MSRP to $108,993.

I just looked at the 2013 XKR with this option at the local Jaguar dealer in El Paso, Texas, and it is still on the showroom floor. Their bottom line price was $103,995.....dealer invoice set at $98,835.

The 2009 Jag XKR Conv Portfolio Edition is one beautiful car.

Hailers Richzak, BrownRobin, v8cat, sklmii, mosesbotbol, everyone, thanks for the comments. I appreciate your time. I should have clarified in the post that I was looking for an individual wanting to sell one. I would pay more than the dealer would give on a tradein, so both of us would benefit.

I really like the look of the xkR, especially the hood vents, but the power is more than I need, and cannot justify spending the extra for the 2 vents. And I like the look of the cranberry stitching.

Drove a 2009 xkr portfolio couple. Liked it, but it had a couple of wear issues, and I would rather have a convertible. Also drove a 2007 xk convertible. A little too much wind noise, but I read that it is better on 2008 and later because the antenna was incorporated into the back window.

Even though some of the limited production ones will hold their value better, I will put on enough miles so it really won't matter much.

Reason considering the 2010 is that since I will use it as primary car, and put on quite a few miles, the newer motor "all-new 5.0-liter direct-injected V8"might be better. Also, the cooled seats would be nice. Also thought the "Jaguar Drive Control, a new feature this year, offers the driver a choice of three different modes to alter the car's sporting responses via attributes such as throttle response, shift speed and suspension settings. The adjustable suspension with adaptive dampers is also new, and it's been designed to maximize ride comfort and handling prowess depending on driving conditions. An electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential is another new feature this year" sounded nice. These are comments from Edmunds.

I had a 2007 XKR (albeit a coupe) for a year and traded for my 2010 XKR.

Difference is significant in *many* ways. My 2010 has every option I have read that is listed on the "Portfolio" edition, with the exception of the Alcon brakes.

After owning a car with the oversized Brembo brakes I don't want that hassle again.

I'd go with a 2010 or later vert - you will not be dissappoiinted.

Rscultho do you have the A/C in the seats yourself too?

I will sell mine but i am in Spain.

Having owned both the 08 and 12 xk verts, I would say that your analysis is right on. The 12 vert is a much different car than the 08. In addition to what you mentioned above the 12 is a much "stiffer" well put together vehicle.

I'd go for a newer XK over a "not as new" XKR, but either one is great.

There are plenty of 2010 and 2011 Jaguar XK's for sale and some at great prices. These cars have massive depreciation for the first 4 years, so do some research on the "cost to own". Some for sale have low mileage and are beautiful cars.

Remember the XKR is supercharged, while the XK model is not.

From 2007 to 2009 the engine was a 4.2L and 2010 and beyond the engine is 5.0L. I have the 2009 XKR Convert Portfolio Edition Supercharged and there is allot of power in the supercharged verison it is just enough to handle. I raced formula open wheel cars for 10+ years, and this machine (XKR) feels just right on the road.

Check out eBay for a good idea of what these cars are selling for. You can narrow the search fields for exactly what you want.

Set a budget that you want to spend.

Then start your search, there are plenty of XK's out there for sale in what you are looking for.

Be sure to check out nada.com, edmunds.com, kbb.com for pricing.

I am so impressed with the XKR, I am so happy I bought one.

Every year Jaguar makes small improvements to their models, whether it be cosmetic, features, performance, and the improvement for '10 were broad and significant. They're all terrific cars, and unless you're focused on high performance I'm not sure one is really that much better than another. If you're going to put lots of mileage on the car it makes sense to buy at a lower price as you will not be able to maintain its value as easily as one that mostly sits in a garage. The pre-10's should be significantly less, and have had another year of depreciation if that helps the budget. I'd consider availability of a warranty as being more important than most year to year feature considerations.

A warranty for 2009 or earlier will have to be a Third Party Warranty....USAA offers the best deal for the best price. Jag XK are warrantied for 4 years, but does have a 6 year corrosion warranty.

Also 2007 XK convertible top does not drop into a hidden cover......2008 and above the convert tops folds into the hidden cover and has a great look.

I agree with above poster (Bruce H) about the mileage and cost/depreciation reduction of later model that is driven everyday.

There are many 2008 and 2009's for sale (XK) on eBay and Autotrader.com

Spend some time to check them out. Run vehicle checks for history and make reasonable offers to buy.

For pricing on ebay, for highline vehicles, most are never sold. I read that a lot of dealers just use it for advertising. Some time back I looked at the number of completed sales on ebay for XK's and for SL550's, and there were none in the last (I think it was) 90 days.

Rich, I did not realize the 2007 does not have a hidden top cover. Was looking for newer, but will scratch 2007. I had a z4 and an SL500 with hidden tops, they look so nice without the hassle of putting on a boot cover. Years ago I looked at a Thunderbird, and was reserved at several things. That was one, in addition to low headroom with the softtop.
