Water from drain tubes??
Picked up my 2008 XK last week and I'm thrilled so far but I have my first newbie question...
Why when I'm only using heat and it's 35 F in PA am I seeing two little parallel puddles under the car at the back of the engine. Looks like condensation but not running A/C. |
The AC compressor runs pretty much constantly, although it's a variable unit and not a clutch-driven unit. It works to remove the humidity from the interior air so it will not condense on the interior of the windows.
Therefore, normal operation. |
Thank you!!

Yeah, if it's on both sides then exhaust drips. Not an issue. AC condensate runs onto the transmission about as far back as where the side vents are on the fenders.

It's on both sides so must be exhaust. Thanks guys!

Sorry I misunderstood, my little puddles aren't anywhere near the rear they are at the back of the engine. Must be what Cee Jay described.
|
The duckie will drip onto the transmission and can go down both sides, hence parallel.

I'm with jagtoes and think its from the exhaust joints (not tailpipes) unless you confirm you find the drips after a period of driving (spiritedly - I don't know how long but say 20-30 mins)
|
Take you HVAC system off the auto setting. Shut off A/C. Run the car and if you still have water dripping, it's likely condensation from the exhaust at the joints like Jagtoes and Hafren indicate. Happens to a lot of cars. If by turning off A/C, the water stops, then what Cee Jay said....
You leave it running in the garage and look under that car you can see it dripping from exhaust joints up at the mufflers. |
Thanks all. Either way, being a new owner I'm just glad that it's condensation and isn't an issue.
