Well its been fun and informative.....
 

After some time as a forum member its time to say good bye. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the posts and the at times quite varied points of view. I learned a lot from many of you and for that my thanks. Yesterday I traded in my 07' XK (only 64000 kms) on for a brand new loaded Corvette Grand Sport - non supercharged as I don't need 700+hp... 460hp is just fine for me.

Its been a slice and Ill still check the site cause there is always some interesting tidbits to learn from...... never know -in 3-4yrs I may be back in a newer XK.

All the best to you all and yes, the XK is a damn good looking car with one hell of a nice ass to look at as it drives down the street. Happy Holidays..... :icon_toast:

Corvette is one direction I could enjoy as well.
Tough leaving everything Jag gives you, for what I perceive as American made plastic but I've watched the Vette grow up into a killer machine that I like!

(Maybe an XJ as her stable mate?)

I rented a Corvette, the way it drove was amazing, the handling, power, it just was "right".

I also like the larger space of my Jaguar.

The balance of the car when brought near the edge was amazing, could go from neutral to under steer or over steer almost at will depending on how I drove it. Some cars are locked into under steer or over steer.

My Jaguar just wants to drift with TC off, no balance to it.

I've had 3 Corvettes, '61, '66, but none since my '69. I've always liked them ... but until the C7, they really didn't get my juices flowing. Then, my neighbor bought a new red Grand Sport. Last October, he invited me to join him for something called, One Lap of Kentucky, sponsored by The National Corvette Museum. We each got to drive it on the NCM Motorsport Park track and then we spent the next 5 days touring Kentucky. We put 1400 miles on his car ... half of which I was driving! Result ... I fell back in love with Vettes!


I'm thrilled that you got a new Grand Sport ... it's the best Corvette they've ever made! And, it will show you just how 'old' the Jag XK really is! Don't get me wrong, I still love my Jag, but the Grand Sport will make you feel like Captain Kirk! Check out all the Corvette Owner participation activities that the Museum sponsors ... up to and including 'finish line' seat tickets at the 24 Hours of Le Mans!

C7 is really amazingly handling machine and Grand Sport has handling characteristics of more expensive trims at a very reasonable price. So it is a deal. Personally, C7 Grand Sport would be my choice for a dedicated track car if I could afford to spend that much on a track car. Maybe in a couple years once they depreciate a bit.

However, I wouldn't be caught dead driving one in public. The image of mid life crisis car is too strong with this. Plus the car has "ticket me" perception with cops, no way you are talking your way out of one driving one of these.

I didn't sell my XK, but I've just got a manual transmission Z06 today.

The two cars are drastically different, best to have both.

What were you thinking? A Plastic Chevy! Yeah they have evolved into a real sports car, (finally)but it took them about 60 years to get the job done. In my opinion a Jag was always cooler. And it sure wasn't made out of Plastic! LOL.

Unfortunately, Jaguar never made the XKR-R with its manual transmission.

I am very impressed by the C5. Impressed enough to buy one, maybe two. :icon_razz:

The C7 I liked the performance, but not the car itself, my knees were touching the dash, my legs were touching the steering wheel, my head was touching the roof.

There are also some fundamentals that I enjoy more as a car with the C5, an ignition key instead of push button, physical door handles instead of push button, etc...

now I´m driving for four years my 2014 XKR after 1 x C5 and 4 x C6.


I changed to Jag, because the C7 was and is not my taste.


Actually I am looking for a new car - I compared some C7 with F-Type.


C7 ist much more cheaper, but the more I compare the cars - I dont like the C7 styling.


But I drive my XKR for the next months, because the F-Type also did not convince me 100%.

4 C6's one after the other, or more than one at once? I could see going from different body styles as they came out, and then a Z06. Was that the case?

The difficult thing with the F-type vs Corvette is the inertial axis between the two cars is quite different.

I'm making an assumption that you like to buy a new car in warranty and sell when the warranty is over?

Sadly, a lot of the British sports cars are going over to German turbo-charged V8's shortly. You might want to look into an Aston Martin V8 Vantage that still has the normally aspirated engine if there are still some available to buy new.(Go Manual).

As an alternative, if you liked the older vettes, just at their current prices just go get one again and have both the C5/C6 and the XKR. They really are different enough to be able to enjoy the choice of having both.

Sounds like we need to radically mod the XK-R with a 6 or more speed manual. Wonder how much trouble it would be? I can image the electronics would be a nightmare in itself.
When I converted my '65 Mustang vert from a C4 to T5z it wasn't too bad. But, at the same time, they were available either way so parts weren't a problem.

As I mentioned last year a car service/restoration company named Donovan motorcar service in Mass. is in the process of doing this conversion. I talked to them last year at the vintage car races at Limerock park. They are Jag specialist and also vintage Jag racers.

Tervuren - the warranty was the reason to buy new ones.

Also the same problem at the moment with my XKR. In Germany you have only 3 years Jaguar warranty

it is an inverted situation here in the US because of taxes.

The older, the lower the taxes, there is a point taxes are just a few dollars. I pay less than $17 in taxes for both my 1980's Porsche's combined.

In contrast my Jaguar is about $450.

For me, it makes sense to own multiple old cars, and if something goes wrong with one, drive the others and junk/replace or fix the one with a problem depending on what I want.

In this situation a new car with a warranty doesn't have as much value.

I'm not sure of the case in Germany, but I believe several European countries increase the taxes the older the car.

The new car landscape is changing from regulations, past designs and styling just are no longer possible.

I personally don't trust Porsche enough to go for a new one, but I have to say their current generation 911 is a fantastic GT.

If you haven't had problems with your XKR, you might just want to stay with it until something new you actually want appears.

But in comparison to Austria this ist very cheap
