Honestly, I have no complaints about the 385hp in the base 5.0 XK... sounds great and more than enough power for my driving. At the prices they are going for now, a 2010+ XKR would have been a no brainer. Part of me says I should be driving a Ford Mustang GT350, while the other part of me says it would rather be seen in the Jag.

I love the design and performance of the car, and I like the fact that it is pretty rare to see another XK on the road... but I am not 100% sure I would buy the car again if I could travel back in time.
Insurance premiums are high compared other cars of similar value.

Yes insurance is high, but if you base it not upon current value, but on purchase price I don't believe you'll see much difference. What would a same year SL550 cost to insure for instance, or if an XFR a SL550 AMG?

My 2010 XKR is $862 per year. Is that good or bad? I have high-ish coverage and low deductibles plus low mileage and multiple vehicles.

The biggest downside are the broken windows from old ladies throwing their walker through; they leap and follow the walker right after. I shall make use of the cover of an expurgator as to what happens from there.

Upon further reflection; I realize that for some that doesn't represent a downside.

I paid significantly more for insurance on my XK at the time than my Lotus and Lotus was worth a lot more.

That was my experience too. Over here, I paid nearly double in insurance on the XKR than I do on the f Type, when the price of the F Type is like 70% more than the XKR. I think it is because the XKR is categorised as high powered. It was something like $5000 per annum.

My insurance in S Cal is about $1900 per year for the XKR vert. Not much different from the insurance on my old 12 XK vert. Maybe $100/yr higher.

Wow! I pay less than $950 with Budget Direct for my 08 XKR, they offered the best value and include breakdown assist

Ok, guess the XK is significantly cheaper to own, insurance-wise than the XKR.
Currently paying $712 for my '07 XK convertible, with State Farm (some discount I'm sure, with having two other cars and a house with them as well).

All this insurance talk has made me curious about my own premiums. Interestingly, for the same coverage on both our cars, the premium for the XKR is exactly 50% of the Panamera's for liability coverage but only about 22% less for comprehensive coverage.

Based on the difference in liability premiums, higher powered doesn't seem to be a primary factor. Seems like the underwriters for my carrier (Safeco) simply view the bigger heavier Panamera as having more potential for damage or injury than the XKR.

Based on the comprehensive coverage differences, it would seem the XKR is also generally cheaper to repair since the breakdown on the bill shows the endorsement for OEM parts replacement is also about 20% less than the Porsche.

Porsche parts are among the most expensive because most are unique to Porsche and are low volume. Jaguar uses many parts made by Ford that are inexpensive because those parts are high volume since they are used on multiple models and by other brands such as Volvo, which was formerly owned by Ford. The cost of aluminum body repairs is declining as more vehicles become aluminum-intensive, e.g., Ford F-150 - it's best-seller.

Insurance premiums vary widely, depending on geographic market, driver demographics, and the "quality" of the insurance company. Buying the cheapest insurance you can find may save you lots of money, but it's like a parachute - what happens if it doesn't do what you expected when you really need it?

Yeah, I never had an issue until the 5.0 XKR. It was insane. I tried to shop around but some of the insurers would insure it at all. And that was with me not having made any claims for pretty much 20 years.

That's for Cammeray in NSW, is the Gold Coast a high risk of theft area?

You Oz guys get screwed every-which-way-and-on-Sunday. Double-plus insurance, Huge taxes on new purchases, huge PRICE on ANY purchases, and what are your FUEL prices down there? US prices just went up, now about sixty US cents per liter, but sixty FIVE cents/liter for High Octane.

I feel my insurance is quite reasonable for the last 3 years. Possibly my driving record? My Credit rating? My Age? Not sure but my 2 cars which I own solely cost me slightly under $2,000 with 250/500 across the board with uninsured and underinsured. and $100 deductable for comprehensive collision. If it sounds alot, it costs me $1400 for one car.

Note wrong Ceejay
Premium fuel that is roughly $1.40-$1.50 per litre

Speaking about outrageous prices this n/a 5L is the cheapest facelift model currently on the market

Damn. I gotta move to FL.
My XKR 'vert insurance WAS $220/month, pretty much the same limits. I think I have $250 for Comp. Then I got in an accident for which it was determined I was "60% at fault", and it went to $360/month. Nothing on my record for eight years prior to that.

I paid $95k for my 2010 XKR 3 years ago, so at least they're holding their value...
