xk wont turn over - dsc not available parking brake fault and cats system fault
 

2007 jag xk wont start went to back car into garage. gear shifter wouldn’t go into reverse. ending up having to push car into garage b/c would not restart. Got dsc not available parking brake fault and cats system fault all on dash. odd thing is I can set and release parking brake Putt in brand new battery everything else on car works but acts like its not connect b/c engine wont even try to fire. been looking for ignition fuse to see if its blown

When my battery was at the end of its life I had similar symptoms.

Is likely related to power.

Also make sure you do not have a Bluetooth OBD scanner plunged into the port.

Try this: Press the START button BEFORE you step on the brake pedal.

LOL this happened to me once when I was in a hurry.

I think most of us have been there once. And it is frightening and perplexing the first time.

Thanks all for the reply. I have tried what you have suggested and the car still wont start. I went to Orielly's and got a brand new battery dated 3/19. Even with the old battery (which was relatively new) I put a portable battery starter with the old battery and the car acted like it wasn't even there. All of the lights radio a/c come on and function fine. Even though it say parking brake fault -the brake sets and release fine. Pressing the brake then pushing start button yields no results - not even a sound of trying to fire up. Its like I didnt push the button; yet the rest of the car powers up and shuts off like supposed to when button is pushed.

Could it be:
a blown ignition fuse
the codes need clearing first
bad module

Did you actually stomp on the brake like you're trying to push the pedal through the floor? This has happened to me a couple of times and to re-engage you have to really push hard.

Yes tried that to point that I thought I had broken the pedal.

Another vague memory came back to me of something similar, but not exact to your situation.

YUP, my first gremlin. Takes 3 presses of the start button to light.

Sadly, like a few of my older posts, I failed to go back and say how it was resolved, which in retrospect is damn stupid on my part for not sharing the fix. (That is a key reason we are lucky to have this forum after all.)
If I recall (and without my records accessible for the work order), that was when Jaguar replaced both my key fobs. Something is tickling the back of my mind that there was a software update applied as well, but again, without the work order I can't be confident about that part.

Sounds like a high speed bus comm failure. Usually they are caused by voltage surges / spikes / noise during the boot up process. I'd pull the battery cable, touch them together for a minute or so and then check the battery voltage before putting the cables back on. If it's below 12.75vdc, charge it over night and try again. The alternative is to drag it into the dealer and let them drain your wallet chasing buss / module problems. You may still need to but the voltage chase is cheaper and easier.

Did you download the free service manual and wiring diagrams from the stickies yet? Makes a huge difference in understanding how the car's modules communicate.

I was also thinking key fob. For instance, if I have the fob in my left hand near the door handle, my car will not start and will give me a "key not recognized" warning. When I then pull in closer to the console, it will then start right away. Maybe, the keyless fob is not being picked up and therefore not releasing the starting mechanism.

Could be as easy as the break switch or the starter butten itself!?

I'm digging into a bit as I type, but there is a 30A fuse (F19) between the starter relay and the starter solenoid.
I believe the start button is a 'make or break' momentary contact, and if so, then the lighted dash indicates it has done its job.

The brake switch is a pretty good thought, and I'll try to see if it is the same switch used to activate the tail lights. If so, then that would test that.

Just started looking at the electrical... If I find more, 'Ill post up.

Besides a brake switch, the management system also needs to know the car is in park or neutral. Gets tricky there, finding the source signal from the transmission. I believe it feeds the instrument cluster where all the peices fall into place, such as the brake switch signal, security signal and start signal before it (the cluster) will send a start command to the car. Yuck....

He's getting faults when he tries to fire it up. That to me means the chassis is being told to power up from his inputs but it has faults that are preventing it from trying to start itself. Two different animals.

As Rancho mentioned a hard reset should be done... I had similar faults back when I was trying to get my reverse camera turned on after a shop without the proper SDD tried to go in and turn on. The car actually let me leave the shop but when I got to where I was going and turned car off, car would not start no matter what I did, I tried jumping car, a new battery, ect... I did a hard restart and it started right up...
