XKR 2008 Engine Fault, Airconditioning
Hi
I have an XKR 2008 and I am first owner. Since 2013 when I had 78.000 km my car had an engine fault sign. I took to the official garage in Cyprus and they couldn't trace anything. From that time the power of my car reduced significantly. Although I visited the garage for all planned services and many times for engine fault signs they were just taking it off as false warning.
When I reached 110.000 km and I was on the 6th year of ownership (our of guarantee less than 100k or 5 years ownership). They informed in 2015 that I may need to replace the catalytic converters. In 2016 I took it for service with a warning light and with my air conditioning whistling in high temperatures and much low power when the aircon is on. Their conclusion was that I have to replace the catalytic converters but they don't know what the whistling problem is. Yesterday my car had all the above problems, low power, a small noise coming from the engine like a diesel car and a light smell of burnt in the engine area.
Can anyone give advise on this as the official garage asks only to change the catalyts for EURO 3200! without being sure for the rest of the issues ( ie diesel noise, low power and whistling)

Wow, I've got to hand it to that dealer and their investment strategy.
They know you have a problem, but the car is drivable, so they won't tell you what the problem is, while the car is under warrantee.
When the warrantee is up, they can now 'cash in' on their investment, and tell you that you need new cats, brilliant!
As far as the air-con whistle, I seem to recall reading recently about a similar issue on this forum. Do a search of the forum, you may turn up some useful info.
