XKR radio aerial question
 

Hi all, been lurking a while now.

This forum is brilliant and I thank all those who contribute such useful information which has helped me make informed decisions.

We own a F-pace 30D and love it so now am looking at buying a XKR 4.2 2008 model.

Have found one which stacks up very nicely but its has a rear quarter mounted electric aerial which I really do not want.

This car is registered as a 2008 model which I found unusual as I thought only 2007 models had this ugly appendage sticking out the back.

Question is did they still fit these aerials in 2008 models or could it be a late 2007 model which was not registered on the road until 2008?

It looks like you're from New Zealand, so there may be differences between model year and registration year compared to the USA and other countries. The electric antenna was a feature of the first model year only, which was 2006 in Europe and 2007 in North America. It was eliminated after the first model year.

If the The XKR you're looking at wasn't first sold until 2008, then that was the registration year for a 2007 model year XKR. The USA uses model year, and not registration year, when advertising a car for sale. Many 2007 XK/XKR model year cars were built in 2006.

I think the XKR was released to market in NZ in 2007. However most XK and XKR for sale in NZ are imported from Japan second hand as are the ones I have been looking at buying

Not sure what the XKR release year was in Japan but I suspect this car I am looking at is a 2007 build which sat new on a dealers yard unregistered until it was sold to its first owner in 2008.

I understand there were some subtle upgrades between 07 and 08 XKRs but do not know what to look for to identify the difference apart from aerial.

The 4.2L model years in the North American market are 2007, 2008, and 2009. The 5.0L began with the 2010 MY. Here's a quick way to tell the difference.

2007 has the electric antenna
2008 has no electric antenna and no iPod connectivity
2009 has no electric antenna. iPod connectivity integrated with the touchscreen and steering wheel controls became standard equipment. The connector is in the armrest compartment.

Note that a similar dealer-installed accessory Audio Connectivity Module became available in 2009 to retrofit in 2007 and 2008 models.

The VIN is the best evidence of model year, colors, and optional equipment.

Thats good advice thanks Stuart ,I will be looking at a couple in next few days, where can I find the vin plates on the 07/ 08 XKR?

Will do a web search on the Vins while at dealers yards.

I am a fellow kiwi and I have been tracking XKR's on TradeMe for the last 10 years. In that time I have seen quite a few 07 model year cars advertised as 2008 models because it is done by registration date not MY.

I have also seen 08 MY cars advertised as 07 models because the early ones were actually made in 2007.

The VIN plate can be seen at the base of the windscreen, on the passenger side.

Whats the best website to track a XKR Vin #?

You must have seen an interesting trend in XXR listings over the years, seems to me you probably loose 50K when you drive it off the showroom floor, then they drop around $12,000 per year for the first ten years, then about $5,000 per year for the next 5 years until they end up between 10 and 20 k.

Based on the list price of ~ $230,000.00 when new in 2007.

This is the XK Range VIN lookup BUT you may have problems with a Japanese market Jaguar VIN. Jaguar have used a separate system for Japan and I've never found it documented.

Absolutely I will do the intro post should I become a XKR owner, all going to plan that will be quite soon, been a dream car for many years and finally in a position that I don't need back seats anymore and can choose the car I want rather than the one I need.

We recently purchased an F-Pace and having driven that a fair bit on winding country roads have really grown to love the engineering in these cars.

The VIN on Japanese market Jags is the same as for any other country.

I have and I have a spreadsheet to prove it :)

It is also interesting seeing cars coming back on the market and seeing how much they lose in a year or so as well as how much they drop by before they are finally sold.

I stopped tracking the 4.2 XKR's when I bought my '10 XKR a year and a half ago but the most expensive 2007 I have a note of is $149,000 back in Feb 2010. That car had 13,000 mile on it at the time.

The most expensive XKR I saw was a 2010 XKR for $249,999 in Jan 2011 and a 2013 XKR-S in May 2013 for $261,500.

I have stats for 5 litre F Types as well, just in case I ever decide to buy one :)

Interesting. However, looking at my 2008 Portfolio Convertible's VIN, Prefix 6 + 7 = 44 not 46.

There's a coupe of 08 Xkr on TM for around the 40K mark, so when you consider the original purchase price they seem like bargain now.

In your experience how long do the 07 to 08 XKR sit on the market before they sell?

That bit of the vin seems to be wrong all the time, my 2009MY XKR Portfolio coupe is a 43.

Unrelated to the thread but one of the cars I am looking at tomorrow has 20" Senta's but I noted the fronts are Dunlop Sportmaxx and rears are Yokagawa.

I am not an expert in such things but I would have thought this is not ideal on a performance car, any one have any ideas about this?

The previous owner probably discovered how awful the SportMaxx's are and bought different tyres when the rears went.

I have done the same. The rears on mine are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's and the fronts are still the original SportMaxx's. When they need replacing I will put 4S's on the front too.

I took my '10 on a track day recently and it didn't seem to particularly affect it. I certainly had decent grip on the rear anyway :)

The dealer who took my '07 in part exchange for my '10 still had it on the lot 12 months later but he was asking 50k which made it the most expensive one on TradeMe at the time. He eventually sold it for $37k as part of a fire sale when he closed his shop a few months ago. It was immaculate and had only done 53,000km's but was rather loud due to high flow cats so wouldn't have been to a lot of people's tastes.

As mentioned before, I haven't been tracking the 4.2 prices for over a year but when I was sensibly priced ones were only on the market for a couple of months. Higher priced ones or high mileage ones take 5-6 months e.g. one that had done 112,000km's was advertised originally at 56k in Apr 17, dropped to 45k in Aug 17 and finally sold for $39k in Sep 17.

The last five I tracked between May 17 and Sep 17 all went for between 43k and 48k.

Thats brilliant and thank you for sharing that info, helps a lot. My take on that is that in todays money 1.5 years later than your records a 07 or 08 with km's between 50 and 100k has a ceiling of 40K.

I have a philosophy that fluids and filters are the cheapest mechanics in town so am picking I should budget around $2,000 after purchase for a immediate service to include oils/filters and coolants to flush and replace transmission, diff, engine, brakes, power steering and coolants. That sound about right?

So I took a couple of as advertised "2008" XKR for a test drive today, the one I prefer has the rear quarter electric aerial, black exterior and black leather with aluminium interior, 10 way seats and 20" Sentas so I believe it is probably a 2007 MY which has been optioned higher than standard spec?, I have attached a couple of pics of the Vin and name plates on the doors, did a web search but not 100% sure what manufacture year it is from this info, also the long sticker inside passenger door with a long list of numbers on it, anyone know what this is all about?
