found a xk120, could use info on what to grab it for

Greetings all. I'm new to Classic Jags but, have been doing mustang's and Lincoln's for quite some time.

I fell upon this 1953 XK120 roadster couple weeks back when purchasing a 65 Lincoln and mustang from someone's backyard.

Obviously from the pictures you can tell its been sitting there for quite some time. Haven't had to chance to see the condition of the frame

Owner has a clean title and the 3.8L is in tact and all there.

What would be a fair price to start with on this ? My restoration skills are only so well but, I cant leave this sitting here in the ground either.

Any advise is appreciated.

Hood and doors uncorroded because they are aluminium, but the other panels look to be very seriously rusted, so much so that one must consider that almost all need replacing, plus the chassis as well. So if you do buy this heap of parts, then you need to budget for a very large sum to restore it. XK chassis can now be obtained from Poland, I understand.

You then also will have the engine to restore/rebuild and all other mechanical parts. Not a job that is going to be finished in a few months, so consider years are needed.

FWIW, I rebuilt a Mark 2 in the 80s and it took seven years, and I had an unrusted body shell !! Of course I was doing a job of work in the week, so could only work on the car at weekends and evenings. Most parts are available for XK120s but are expensive.Try searching the internet to see what prices are like.

PS: I'm not trying to put you off, but it would be better if you could find a better example to restore.

!20s did not come with a 3.8L and the front wings suggest an earlier date--note running lamp pods!

Any chance you'd know what I'm looking at? If I don't pull it out, I am sure the owner will let it decay more

Can you find the data plate under the bonnet? It is a brass plate with numbers for the car!
