Original bill of sale 1955 XK 140

I am in the middle of a frame off restoration of my wife's uncle's 1955 XK 140 roadster. He was the second owner and purchased the vehicle back in 1968 for $495.00. I know that the Jag was initially purchased near Shell Beach, CA in October 1955 by the original owner for $3450.00.

I would like to locate a copy of the original bill of sale.

This was not that hard with my 1965 Corvette convertible but that is an American Car and there are many resources available.

I have tried numerous internet searches with no luck.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

I'm amazed you could easily locate the original bill of sale for your 1965 Corvette. When I purchased a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 in 1978, it took years to trace the original owner and I was fortunate that he still had the original invoice. A 63 year old Jaguar is likely to present a considerably greater challenge.

When you say "initially purchased near Shell Beach, CA in October 1955", presumably you don't know the name of the dealer? If this is the case, JDHT (Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust) may be able to help. They hold all the factory records and will have details of the original specification and the supplying dealership.

Good luck.

Graham

Thank you for the response. You are correct, I do not know the dealer name. I do have the name of the first owner but I have not been able to track them down. I will try reaching the Trust.
