XK140 '56 production ends and '57 starts
Does anyone know when the production of the 1957 XK140 started?
What would be the first Chassis number for a 1957 XK140 OTS LHD?
What month did the switch over from the 1956 model to the 1957 model take place in? (Some time in mid 1956, I'm guessing)
Is there a website with this information?
Thanks

Try this website for XK140 production details:

Are you an owner, would-be owner or an enthusiast of the XK140?

Yes, I saw this site with these figures. I wasn't sure how I should interpret these numbers. If I'm looking at the XK140 OTS LHD figures,
It looks like '56 ended with chassis number 813121. '57 started with 813122 and only went to 813282. That means only 160 "1957" XK140 OTS LHD where produced.
OR.. Are these figures bring broken down via the calender months/years and not make/models? If so, the 1957 XK140 where being produced in the mid '56 year. (july-aug.)
I guess my question is still what was the first (Chassis Number) XK140 in the 1957? I've seen a few 1956 and 1957 XK140 OTS that are for sale with chassis number that are very close in order. Some where out of order. (A '56 OTS with a higher chassis number then a '57 OTS. )
Thanks again for your help

General commentary here. I am by no means an XK120-140-150 authority.
I took only a glimpse at the linked web page but traditionally all published Jaguar production stats are by calendar year, not model year....at least thru the 90s.
"Model year" references are tricky with Jaguar (and others) because the cars were sold in many markets with varying standards/practices regarding model year designations. In the 50s the USA distributors may have assigned the model year designations and/or different states may have had there own requirements. Later, when Jaguar Cars USA was formed, some weird stuff went on with model year assignments to for marketing reasons and/or legal/safety/emission compliance.
Cheers

In the UK, Jaguar 'model year' changed after the factory holiday shutdown fortnight in August. The new MY traditionally began with the return of the workforce. A source of great confusion over the years!
Bill Lyons was also one of the first motor manufacturers in this country to introduce 'just in time' parts delivery from suppliers. Cost effective and enabling the company to hold minimum inventory, it regularly resulted in part built vehicles put to one side awaiting particular components. This is one of the factors contributing to anomalies in numbering sequences.
