£35,000 for an 04 XKR
 
Just seen this ad in the UK for a 2004 XKR convertible with 21k miles. What it actually sells for we won't ever know, but £35,000 (not sure what is in USD) just seems to me to be a tiny bit optimistic?! It obviously has extremely low mileage, appears in mint condition and is a limited edition variant, so maybe the valuation isn't so wrong??

They do say the X100's value is appreciating...

I looked at a carbon fiber edition in Florida and it was different in several ways to this one. I thought the c. f. limited edition was only for the States but someone with more knowledge will chime in if I'm wrong. Either way £35k is flying a kite IMHO.

30.7 mpg on the highway?? From an XKR?? I don't think so. And £35,000 is about $45,480. Good luck with that!

Seems very expensive to me, even if there is something special about it. The low mileage is, of course, a plus - but how much of a plus? Yes, the new owner might save on some maintenance costs compared with a higher mileage vehicle but we are surely talking about, say, 200,000 miles or so available on this car which is long lived with a superb engine and gearbox.

I have just bought a 75000 mile Xkr with adaptive cruise control from Chiltern of Bovington for £21,000, which is, I believe, about £4000 over the odds (the acc was essental for me, and it does add to the price). I needed to own the car for 12 months before being able to take it with me when we emigrate to Portugal next year (otherwise an enormous tax bill) so, having unhappily crashed my previous XKR (2003, lpg converted, 140000 miles) I was under great pressure to replace it.

I would not have bought this one, frankly, if it were not for our situation, because it has a dreadful service history. So I have taken it to my local, very trustworthy and competent Jaguar independent (S and P Autos, Newton Abbot) for a thorough check and to bring it back to an impeccable standard. The cost of this will be around £4000, but it included an engine check, bodywork and mechanical work - probably rather more than strictly necessary right now. So, the engine is good, no rust, and the work will include new bushes on the front suspension (showing a little wear, but I wanted it perfect!) new plugs, gearbox oil and sump/filter change, new rear disks, pads, straightening of small buckle on front wheels, a full service, and some other bits I can't think of right now.

Why am I saying all this? Because I believe there is not that much 'added value' here - the cost of the one you have brought to our attention far outweighs, to my mind, the maintenance savings, and some of the components - hoses, for example - suffer from age rather than mileage, so can still cause problems. I think the right price for a good example in the UK is about half this, as long as it has a decent maintenance history - and perhaps the purchaser might consider spending a little getting it exactly right.

There seems to be a trend lately that low mileage cars go for a huge premium at auction, reguardless of condition. Personally I would prefer a vehicle with reasonable mileage that has been maintained properly than a low mileage vehicle that has been pushed of a cliff while burning.

The other day I was supprised watching a Mecum auction on the TV. 2- 2006 Ford GTS, almost identical, one had 2000 miles, $306,000. The other had 25,000 miles and went for $250,000. Those were very expensive trips to the shops.

Very pretty car, but I'm with Diddion on the value: I looked at a 2004 XKR black-on-black late last year. It was priced at around £16000 ($21000) and likely went for around 13-14K.

Jackie Collins' XKR (OK it was 2 years older) only fetched $38,000 and that had just over 2000 recorded miles.

Seller might get lucky, it looks to be well kept, and there are people who don't care about price, they just want the car. An old friend of mine was obsessed with the Chrysler PT Cruiser when it first came out, and paid over $45,000 for one of the first off the line. Yikes! But she had the money to burn...

The model is not as special as the dealer's hyperbole or price suggests BUT the history sounds very impressive:

"Past Historical Service Record With Visits Logged At 4356, 8429, 9915, 11041, 12073, 14345, 16109, 16895, 17400, 19468, 20389 & 21065 Miles, Which Also Boasts A Substantial History File Of Past Invoices"

Twelve services on a time basis and with the invoices to back this up. There will be very few others around with this kind of record.

One piece of missing information is number of owners. If it's a one owner vehicle then I'm sure this would have been included in the description.

Also unfortunate it's not a Final Series but for anyone looking to keep it in a similar pampered fashion for a decade or more, the asking price could no doubt be negotiated nearer to a more reasonable £30k by which time natural wastage of ordinary XK8/XKR's will have made it considerably rarer and collectible.
