Default '06 Convertable - water stains in headliner??

I just noticed that there is a water stain, almost side to side, just about directly above the driver and passenger seats.
The car is very, very seldom ever driven in rain....we live in the Arizona desert...and when washed the top is never put down until completely dry...which does not take long with 10% humidty!!

Looking for hints as to what the problem is and what I need to do to fix this.

Thanks in advance.

The foam between the outer headliner and the liner tends to deteriorate and leave brownish-red stains.

The short term solution is to clean it up (rubbing alcohol or a gentle upholstery cleaner works), but it will come back eventually. The only permanent fix is a new headliner.

Thanks for the answer....I guess I am glad it is not a water leak...but not too pleased about having to put a new headliner in...as this is something that I am not able to do.

Hmmm....wonder if I can get my aftermarket warranty to pay for this...???

Thanks again.

Check the fine print on your specific warranty, but most aftermarket warranties do not cover cosmetic stuff.

Brake parts cleaner evaporates the stain instantly but it will slowly come back.

Wouldn't brake parts cleaner hasten the breakdown of the fabric as well?
