100,000 mile club
Well, mine failed at about 50,000 miles. I was lucky and the valve train just jumped 1 tooth, I was able to drive home. Not a wise decision, but I did it. The Jaguar V8 is an "interference" engine and many times a valve and piston will be damaged when they meet. I was fortunate and this was not the case.
As I recall it was about $3,400 USD to get new tensioners, chains, guides, gaskets, etc., at the dealer. This was many years ago, I'm not sure a dealer would even do it today. The replacement tensioners were of a different material and have held up well for many years and miles.
The tensioner issue is/was well known, I suspect most have been replaced by now...
