Default 1998 XK8 Coupe - Roof drainage channels and window seals

Hi chaps and chapesses

After a little help / advice

I had a leak in passenger side coming from some rust creating a water ingress above the passenger door (LHS - UK car). I've removed the trim and repaired the rust issue. However, while I'm at it, I noticed the window seals on the roof trim were deformed and want to get these replaced too. There's some sort of aluminium corroded within the rubber. I guess the ally held the shape of the seal, and as you can see from the photos, once that falls out, the thing flaps around and won't keep the rain out.

I scoured this forum, and went on the usual sites looking for replacements and ordered the only thing that appeared correct from someone on ebay. What came to me was not up to the job. Wasn't long enough for a start, but also was rubber on both faces (the original has a felt inner for the window to slide against).

So, has anyone else come up with this problem and found a solution (without having to fork out for replacement trims??

Roof trim from passenger side. Can see the seal flapping around at the mirror end of trim

similar problems on the drivers side - bubbling from the corrosion and further down, coming loose

Repaired rust... apologies for the amateur paint job

Hi Admins

Just wondering if I can re-post this thread or something?

For some reason, in the 24 hours since I posted it, it's only been viewed 16 times. Similar aged thread have 20x that number of views and therefore I might be missing out on some knowledge / experience. I tried viewing this thread as a guest and it wouldn't load, so perhaps I've messed up. Are the pics too big?

Anyway, love to hear your thoughts; don't want to annoy anyone with unnecessary threads or "boosts" but for all I've heard that my XK8 issue is a common problem, I can't find an actual solution

Garotte,

Wasn't ignoring your post, but as you said, the parts you're looking for aren't easy to find. Hence that's why you tried eBay. I've looked at my usual sources - Terry's Jag, Welsh, British Parts and had no luck either. I bet a number of forum members have tried and as they hadn't had any luck, they may not have responded to your thread..

You're down to specialists - I use DCR Autoparts for weird bits as David Roche is very helpful (.... when he finally responds) but then you're down to the car breakers. I see you're in the UK (where rust is an issue) so I suspect you may have better luck shipping a bit from the USA where it's drier. I also found a scrap/donor car in Bahrain, which I use for the weird bits like missing fixings, but the rubber you're looking for will be shot by now in the sun.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks David,

I'll try DCR and see if I have any luck. Either way I'll let you all know how I get on
