2000 XK8 Transmission Fuid Change

Am coming up on the time when I want to change the transmission fluid. Only have 43K miles on it now but will probably want to do it this fall or winter. Have read most of the posts and am somewhat confused. Some posts talk about the type of transmission. Some refer to the XKR and where to get fluid pan seal kits.

I have a 2000 XK8. Would like to know what transmission I have and how much fluid it holds? And where can I get the fluid and seal kit for the best price?

Thanks guys for your great support.

You have a 5hp24 transmission made by a company called ZF. You can buy just about everything you need right here: The CTSC - ZF Parts

EZDriver, do let us know how it goes. I am planning on doing it to my 2000 also, but have read reports the exhaust has to be dropped to get the pan off.

I seem to recall reading in another thread on this forum that it good practive to replace the presure valve when changing the fluid in the ZF5HP24. Am I remembering correctly? Is this the part?

Main Pressure Valve 5HP24 - 5HP30

Thanks!

You may want to look at this link; Welcome to bavauto.com | Automatic Transmission Fluid - ESSO LT71141 - 1 Liter

Good place to buy the correct transmission fluid for your car.

My Solution ZF HP5

I ended up putting in 6 quarts of Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. I found it for $7.99 a quart. I bought the filter kit from Rock Auto ($15). My local shop (Mercedes certified) installed the filter and did the fluid change for $107.

So, for about $175 the job is done. All is well after the first 300 miles except for some lingering odor...
