2000 XK8 Won't start
 

I'm stuck, Tried starting my jag it ran very rough for a couple of seconds and then stopped. Now it won't start. Diagnostic code P1111 shows up but from what i read this is just an indication that the diagnostics completed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. When you say it won't start I assume you mean it cranks over but won't fire. You are correct about the P1111 code. You must have a code reader, check again for codes, please.

Some basic questions:

Has it been sitting for a while or do you use it daily or often?

Any Red or Amber lights?

What is your battery condition - how old is it?

Any other odd electrical issues prior to this?

To add to Scott's comments - When was the fuel filter last changed? This filter should be changed every year or 10K miles of driving - whichever comes first.

Turn the ignition on and check to hear the fuel pump "prime up" which is a 2 sec woosh sound. To add, check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail - should be at least 40 PSI - anything less than that is a problem.

Hey just one more note I've had the car for about a year and really love it!!

Ken, it may have just flooded and wiped the oil off the cylinders. Try pulling the fuel pump fuse (? #7 in the trunk, check your owners manual) and crank the engine until the oil pressure gauge goes up to normal. Then let the car sit for an hour or so and do that again. Then reinstall the fuse and give it a shot. If the motor sounds like it's spinning too fast, you may have to squirt some oil in the spark plug holes and repeat the above. Look for member Gus who has addressed this issue in some detail on his website. Good luck.

Your no start could by a number of things if when attempting to start the car you engine spins like it has no compression as Mike66 suggested let us know. I have a no start procedure that I will send to you with hopes that your problem is a simple one.

2002 XK8 mysterious not starting
 

Hi, Group: I have a 2002 XK8 with just over 60K miles. About 6 months ago I had the big 60K mile service done by a reputable independent garage. No problems until about a month ago this happened: stopped at doctors office to pick up something, returned to warmed-up car with 1/4 tank of gas, turned key, great battery rotated starter motor vigorously, but engine would not catch. I checked gas cap, opened hood looking for god knows what, stewed about it a while. Got back in car, still same thing, whirring starter motor, but engine wouldn't start.
Waited a while in hopes of not wearing down battery & called a nearby friend to come get me. Hung up from that call, got back into car and it cranked right up!!

I've followed some threads about this and it seems like the consensus is that a 15 minute wait is required for some reason I don't understand. Last week, I try to start the car (cold, in garage all night) and same thing happened. I waited a while, fiddling with this and that & finally it cranked right up.

The car has been bullet proof and runs like a turbine engine. This is my first problem in 5 years of ownership. Can any one help me, specifically what I can tell my mechanic (whose father owns a spiffy Series 1 XKE) in cae he's never heard of this issue with XK8s. Thanks!

Thanks for the help, winter has finally left Minnesota so I worked on my Jag yesterday and got it running. It great to have almost ready for the summer!!!
