Default 2001 XK8 Cranks Wont Start

Exact same sympthoms as my 03 XK8 Jaguar convertible. First day out drove 250 miles then filled up and then the engine wouldn't start are filling.

Found loose relay contact on RH engine enclosure squeezed togeter engine started no problem.

Check both the starter relay, EMS relay, Ignition relay all on the RH bank and check to see if they have pulled apart and you need push together gently.

The vibration from the ride and flatting of the tire after storage caused the relay to separate enough when driving and the relay contact separarted and the engine would crank but not start. Let me know how you make out good luck.

The fuel line is a little difficult to see and a bit difficult to reach and at times harder to disconnect. The hoses are center under the tank and come in from under the car at the front of the differential. See if thin procedure on my page helps.

Greetings all,

My turn today on my 2001 XJ8 (X308). Drove great yesterday, no start today! Turns, just doesn't start. I am trying to understand the "squeeze together" part of this tip : "...Found loose relay contact on RH engine enclosure squeezed togeter engine started no problem...". Don't get what I am supposed to squeeze??

Cheers

The relay contact are two piece contact blocks that separate from one another. When I emphasize "squeeze" I mean push the two piece block together gently so the contact posts are seated correctly in the block.

Default Where is the Fuel pump relay?

My first problem occurred today. Cranking but not starting after it just ran fine 15 minutes before. No pressure at schraeder valve when cranking. Likely the fuel pump but I want to rule out the relay. WHERE IS THE RELAY?

In the box under the hood near the firewall (RH side as you sit in drivers seat U.S.)? In there is one set of 3 relays in a row, then a single, then another one plugged in next to fuses. Also are there fuses to check? I pulled each relay and put it back where it was just to assure none were loose. I tried digging around in the sticky's and found schematics but I cant find any pics or descriptions of what fuses/relays do what.

Check your owners manual for the location of the relays and fuses for your car but if your car is like my 1999 xk8 they will be in the trunk.

RELAY LOCATION:

I am away from the car and the owners manual but thanks to Forum guidance, I was able to download an owners manual (I found one to download for a 2000MY).

According to the manual:

There are two fuses and 1 relay associated with the XK8 fuel pump. All of them are in the luggage compartment/"trunk" fuse box. R4 is the relay. By the pic in the manual, seven relays are in there and they layout in a "T" format: There are 3 across and 4 perpendicular to those 3 relays. For reference the picture shows #1 (which is for the fog lights) starting on the right and #4, which is for the fuel pump relay, is the first perpendicular one off of the intersection.

Fuses then are: #3 5a, #7 20a.

Why can't you use a air pressure gauge? I tried my analog Snap On and it read 45psi.

fuel pumps can work and then NOT work....just replace it and you'll be fine, based on your previous work...good fuses & relays.

have a shop do it, it's a booger to do yourself. you'll be fine then!
