2001 xkr stopped running

My 2001 XRK decided to stop running leaving a WalMart. Battery, engine and oil icons highlighted. OBD II code was P1111. Apparently this code is useless in defining the problem. I would like to have a more specific error code and understanding before I HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALER. Any suggestions. It has 96000 miles on it. Thanks in advance.

It might be a failed primary fuel pump, assuming the starter can still crank.

On a 1999-2002 XKR, there is a test you can do to confirm the primary pump and/or wiring in the tank is bad (assuming your secondary pump is still good). It will also let you temporarily drive on the secondary pump.

Simply remove the primary fuel pump relay. The primary fuel pump relay (brown cube) is second from the left in the row of 5 relays in the trunk fuesbox.

Then try to start the car about 5 or 6 times. On about the 6th time, the secondary pump should take over and the car will run normally using the secondary pump as a temporary backup.

(In regular operation the secondary pump just provides extra fuel during high throttle.)

Good luck.

White XKR has a good thought concerning the fuel pump. My XK8 shut down back in August, for no apparent reason. Had it towed in and found out the fuel pump had gone bad. I located an XK8 fuel pump with 6,000 documented miles and my mechanic put it in. Total bill: less than $400. Car runs fine now.

Thanks whitexkr. Did try removing primary fuel pump relay to no avail. Had it taken to the shop. Both primary and secondary fuel pumps bad??? $1000 bucks. Then I read about gatorblues comment that he bought a used fuel pump and had it installed for $400. Well it can cost to be uninformed I guess but thanks for the info. Its at a Jag dealer so maybe I'll have them take a 100,000 mike look. I never a fuel pump go on any of my previous and cheaper vehicles.

Yes, it is unfortunate that the secondary pump gives little indication when it fails. I would not be surprised if 10-20% of XKRs of this vintage on the road have failed secondary pumps.
