Default 2003 XKR part # AJ87222 crankcase breather

This part ( AJ87222 ) is apparently unavailable. Is there a suggested work around. It is a 1/2" diameter cheap plastic hose or tube that runs from the front of the engine to the back and connects to the throttle body. It has lots of vacuum and can't leak. Mine was the victim of a hungry rodent.

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum.

Give us a month....

That said, on my 2003 XKR it is a 15mm hose with an outer diameter closer to 5/8. I used a 5/8" heater hose to splice out the bad parts. Wrapped in silicon shrink wrap and jubilee clips, its a viable fix.

For more permanent solutions you can send your Norma connectors to a user here (search that part number) and he can make you a new cable with uprated flex tube.

I did enough research to find out that my Crankcase breather hose and connectors is manufactured by Norma. The parts I need to keep OEM engineering are the Norma Quick V2 connectors and the Norma flex hose. While Norma is selling to Auto manufacturers they refuse to stand by their products and sell to retail customers even if the auto manufacturer no longer provides the part. This is very dissatisfactory and I hope Norma realizes that is bad for their business in the long run.

I can aptly engineer a work around using generally available parts. I hope no automotive manufacturer uses Norma Connectors in the future as Norma is not supporting the product.

They could sell the parts to a major auto part retailer but don't. Go figure.

I have obtained Norma connectors and user "vanremog" is making hoses with these using uprated flex hose. PM him.

I'd blame Jaguar more than Norma. It's not uncommon for there to be a non-retail, OEM supply. I think hose Jaguar chose to use was designed for electrical conduit not breather hose

I've had to make some homemade pipes over the years. The connectors are definitely not NormaQuick V2's. Those are newer connectors that can be had with double or triple o-rings, and didn't even come out until long after the XK8 / XKR hoses were designed. I did acquire quite a few v2's and none of them fit. There is a chance the V2's could be backwards compatible with their extra o-ring with the originals as I am sure I do not own every version of v2 connector, but I found none that sealed correctly. The only way I've been able to get the correct Norma connectors (which I am guessing were the original NormaQuicks...ie probably v1's which of course were not called v1's at the time) are by buying other OEM hoses for cars from the same era. The other option is using the original 12-20 year old connector if in good shape. I wish I could tell you which part I ordered from who to get them, but I really didn't keep track, and in some cases used the originals. Also, Norma's generally do not have their size anywhere on them. For example the PAxGFxx refers to the material those connectors are made of. I recall either Polyamide 6 or Polyamide 12 along with the % of Glass Fiber. So in the case of vacuum hoses, any of those Norma's will do as long as they fit as vacuum hose connectors don't suffer too much corrosion from vacuum / oil compared to other automotive hoses.

I finally fitted the new breather hose on my 2003 XKR.

The Norma V2's fit perfect. My car had one side 90 degree other end straight, but with a bit of extra slack (32" of hose) the dual 90 degree hose worked perfect.

If interested pm vanremog as he has the Norma connectors and the hose.

Best!

I MAKE AND SELL AJ88622 CRANKCASE BREATHER PIPES FOR $100 US OR $125 OVERSEAS, AS THEY ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. Mine have right‑angle connectors both ends and are more robust and flexible than OE.

Hi Gary,

Do you still sell these pipes? I have a 2003 XKR with a freshly broken pipe :-(

Thanks!

Gary can you make the seat lever surround (escutcheon) part number GJA4762AA? Turbomike in Italy makes them but won't ship to the US.

That must have been quite an achievement - can you outline his issue? Was it just selling stuff in teh wrong way?

If I remember correctly, it was over his "bible" document regarding the XK8 series. He viewed his "bible" as indisputable and began disparaging folks who suggested corrections to it. That was several years ago - perhaps the mods can better elaborate....

I still find his "bible" quite helpful from time to time and appreciate him putting in the work to compose it....
