Yelp I've been watching on TV, unreal what these cars sold for, lot 620 was the only one that did not fetch an inflated price. $20K plus for lot 636 and 658 is just plain CRAZY! Very lucky seller, no way these cars would sell for that much in the real world. Auctions often get carried away with bidding fever.

Interesting none of these cars have NAV, I think the triple guage setup is much more appealing to people, more "sporty" looking!

I think that part of the reason for the high prices is that bidders view these cars as carrying Barrett-Jackson's 'imprimatur', or seal of approval. In reality, I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong) that they have any screening process. To be honest, I think that my car (an '05) is in better condition than any of these auctioned (attendees get to closely inspect the cars, sit in them, kick the tires, slam the doors, whatever). None were 'mint'.

I was watching and I couldn't believe the XK8 prices given that prices for some of the other cars seemed low.

The lesson's I've learned from watching are:

1) Barrett-Jackson people don't know what Craigslist is.
2) Barrett-Jackson people can't or won't fix ANYTHING on a car themselves - Good Luck to those new XK8 owners.
3) Barrett-Jackson people will pay $15,000 more for a car that doesn't need a simple, $500 repair.
4) if its Red, Add 30% to sale price (unless its a 4 door - then no add)
5) a "Modern Chassis" is a 33 year old 1984 Corvette Chassis and it adds $60K to the Value of your '60's Corvette - though complete running '80s Corvettes are $6K on Craigslist (See Lesson 1).

I don't necessarily agree...if the cars in question have documented service history with the appropriate upgrades they are worth $11-15K. The $20k car is questionable.

I have that same car but with 62000 miles and with original Apollo wheels. I am thinking that mine is worth 22..23..24..25! Yeah $25000!

(I will definitely print out a copy of that sale for future reference.)

Given the results from Barrett-Jackson, If I was in the Market for an XK to buy and hold, I would be on my way to Memphis to buy the '04 BRG XKR Coupe in the classifieds.
The right year, The right color and rarer and faster than the 80's 930's that are currently bringing over $100K.

Salsa Red even gets a Premium over Carnival Red, too.

My objective evidence for this is on what planet is 350/3 speed auto on the column, No AC, 1972 Nova worth $29K?

Not a '68, Not a '69, Not a '70, not even a '71, but a '72 with No Big Block, No 4 speed, No 12 bolt Rear Axle... but its RED!!!!!!!!!

I'm wondering if some of these cars came from the same seller.

The 1999 (Lot 636) says it has a "six speed auto", while Lot 658, the 2004, says it has a "5 speed Auto". Both would be wrong.

Mixed up specs are common when juggling multiple cars and some of the pictures show multiple XK8's in them.

Another odd thing. For about the same investment as doing a high quality restoration on a 1954 Silver Dawn you end up with a car that is apparently worth double the price of a fully restored SD. Must be the wheels ; ) 1954 ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER DAWN CUSTOM 4 DOOR SALOON - 65791

Ugh. Non LS1 383 and a Turbo 350. A drivetrain you can order from Jegs and have it shipped to your door brand new for $5,500.

If they had put an $8,000 LS1 in it and a $1,500 4 speed auto, it would have sold for $250K, based on the price differential between SBC's and LS1's in vintage corvettes.

If the Green '67 Camaro that sold for $26K had an LS1, it would have went for $45K.

I wonder what my LS1 T56 XK8 Coupe will be worth?

I was glad to see so many XK8's go through an auction. In fact the last car they showed on television on Sunday was an XK8. The prices were so crazy I thought about listing my car on the local Craigslist for $8k just to see if I'd get any interest.
