2020 XK8 XKR ? Well Turn Dreams Into Reality With New Modern LED Headlights
2020 XK8 XKR well we can dream and customize our headlights to give them a modern theme. So there was a previous thread where someone added halo led rings to the headlights. So I decided to take it a step further I am experimenting with some new customizations. Here are a few options I have come up with thought I might share

This is a custom shape led strip and the way the housing is is the only way to fit it in there is like this. Of course the halos are very easy to fit in but I am trying different themes before deciding. I did a like a photoshop of the original member car who had halos to give an idea how the half halo theme appear. I think its very aggressive. |
You already have a car that folks seldom see driving down the road. Do you really need to attract more attention?
I don't know how others feel, but I'm pretty much over the 'cool led effects' manufacturers seem compelled to amuse us with. |

I understand what you are saying but these drl are the wave of the present and future they serve its purpose. And there is nothing like modernizing your ride I like to stand out and be different from the rest. I might go with option 1 most people already done the ring halo theme already I want to try something different. When I drive the XKR, I'm already displaying quite a difference from every other car on the road, and without changing a thing. but each to their own. Z |
I think our stock headlights are already one up on the "modern" ones due to them being unaffected by the inevitable fog of the plastic that all newer cars suffer.

A thousand times this! Nothing ages a car quicker than fogged and yellowed headlight lenses. In our cars, the only thing that makes them look outdated is that giant UFO signal transmitter and doppler radar in the ass end of the car. |

hmmm your car now stands out from the rest. Personally I did not think it needed more 'look at me' but its your car you are allowed to do what ever you think fit. I am quite happy to stick to 'original' on mine. Remember though what ever "modern" touches you put on a classic car will quickly look odd and outdated. Just my opinion. Nice work though.

All a question of personal preference and taste. You like modernising classics I don't. I am not saying that your wrong merely that your sense of taste differs from mine. You like it thats great. Your money, your choice. Same with me I don't like classic cars modernised as it feel to me its not the same car therefore no longer a classic. To most collectors originality is key to a car being called a classic. I am however guilty of 'modernising' my car. I have changed the high and low beams of mine to very high powered HID setups, but NOT the blues ones. That was on the grounds of safety. I can change it back anytime. But it certainly not for a 'look at me' attempt. I am pleased to say my car gets great attention and some very nice comments.
So enjoy your modding. Your not wrong to do it but neither am I for saying its not to my taste. I cannot deny the above cars look great, but I could never do that to a Jag. Id have to buy myself a Ford First and ruin that. :D |
^^^^^^^^ +1 I won't even put electronic ignition, 5 speed or an AOD in a classic Ford, or any other "lowly" marque. I enjoy the time machine experience of driving a factory stock car of ANY era too much to dilute it with whatever is considered modern at the moment. Modern today is passé in a few years. the really hard core classic collectors won't even look at a car thats had a color change, I'm almost there, but not quite. As for Jaguar gutting an e type for the electric conversion, well... I just have to sedate myself hourly so I won't strangle the person in charge of that decision. ;) Z |

I can remember a certain American collector looking at one car where someone in the 60's had "butchered" the dash to put a radio in. Making the car "modern" at the time but ruining the whole car in the process for later generations. Its still a question of personal preference though. |

my Ford remarks were meant to be tongue-in-cheek. You can look at my signature and see that I appreciate a fine Ford as much as anyone, having owned several of their best efforts from the 1960's. The Shelby's and Galaxies were hardly the "unnoticeable" ones though. ;) Z there is one '60's era Ford trait that I sore miss when working under the hood on my XKR. On the old Fords, one could drop a part under the hood and be reasonably sure it would fall all the way to the floor. Not so on the '02 XKR. A small part dropped in the Jaguar engine bay is promptly swallowed up, not likely to ever be seen again. ;) |

I mean its everyones preference. However if Jaguar is modernizing its classics it speaks volumes. As a matter of fact they have a Jaguar Classic Parts division where you can get some modern parts. In fact I have bluetooth streaming already installed where I can now stream my music. We are talking about headlights here keep in mind having DRL's is a safety feature so with that being said I am totally for safety.
