5HP24 interchangeability between different brands
According to the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_5HP_transmission#5HP24 the ZF 5HP24 is fitted to the following vehicles:
1996–1997 BMW E31 — 840Ci M62/B44 1997–2001 BMW E38 — 735i M62/B35 1997–2001 BMW E38 — 735iL M62/B35 1997–2001 BMW E38 — 740i M62/B44 1997–2001 BMW E38 — 740iL M62/B44 1998–2002 BMW E38 — 730d M57 1997–2003 BMW E39 — 540i M62/B44 1997–2002 Jaguar XK8 V8 4.0L 1998–2003 BMW E53 — X5 4.4i 1998–2002 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 V8 1998–2001 Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas 4.0 V8 1998–2001 Jaguar XJ8 L 4.0 V8 2001–2003 BMW E53 — 4.6is V8 2002–2003 BMW Z8 — Alpina 4.8 V8 2002–2003 Jaguar XJ Sport 4.0 V8 2003–2005 Range Rover — With BMW M62/B44 engine Since I'm in the market for a replacement box for my MY97XK8, can some of you experts tell me that a box taken off from the above vehicles will fit my XK8, or individual vehicles may have a different transmission housing, thus restricting my scope of search to just the boxes coming off Jaguar XK8 and XJ8? Thank you so much in advance. |
I build transmissions for a living . I would do some research into bellhousings matching your motor . gear ratios , valve bodies, main wiring plug , computer strategies with all the solenoids , epc , temp sensor ,
you can't just change the bellhousing as it's the pump , if the gear ratios are different it WILL code , wiring plugs do very from one manufacturer to another. valve bodies on zf's are set up a thousand different ways , will make for hard shifts ,soft shifts ,engagement problems ,so on . as for the computer strategy ,,,well in short ,I would say no oh ,,than there's the output shaft?? many transmissions share the same name but do not interchange . the old jag 3 speed was a turbo hydromatic 400 , as was old rolls Royce , however old chevy trucks didn't fit |
Thank you very much Don for providing your extensive and valuable transmission industry experience to this naive trsnsmission novice. I will just restrict my search for a 5HP24 which comes off an XK8 of that era. BTW, would it be relatively safe to assume the 5HP24 from an XJ8 sedan from the same era would be identical to the XK8's?
