Default Advice on what my cars worth ls1/t56 swapped xk8

Hi everyone, I'm looking to sell my car on eBay. Looking for some advice to see what I should expect out of it, I listed the car for no reserve. Jaguar XK8 Base Convertible 2 Door | eBay

Well that's one way to get around listing in the Marketplace.

Anyway looked at you listing and as heavily modified as your car is I'd say you will take a bath on it but I suspect you already know that!

To someone who want this type of modified car it may sell for a fair value however IMHO that buyer will be few and far between. Good luck

How'd the air lift system work out? I wasn't aware there was a kit that would fit our cars.

How did you fabricate/purchase the manual clutch pedal assembly?

Jaguar Specialties now has a kit that will let you take an LS1 with manual transmission and install it. It's pretty complete and one hell of a temptation. It is one of the big advantages to doing an LS1 swap now. Every time you see an LS1 in a Jag chances are it is a Jaguar Specialties kit. Hell of a temptation.

I'd love to do this kit swap also, sadly I was not aware of the 97-2002 limitation that the kit fits. I have a 03

I have an '04 and really wanted to do an LSA swap. It isn't a hardware issue, it is the damned ECU is different. Eventually someone will fund the effort to do the new decode and then the kit will work. I think they estimated the cost at about $10K for the effort to create the interface. Of course you likely could just go ape **** crazy and buy a wrecked Camaro and try to transplant everything (saw someone do that with an XKR and an XKE the other day) but that is well beyond my skillset. My hope is that by the time my engine blows they'll have the interface done and I can go a tad crazy. Until then I'll save my pennies.

JAg Spec has said they will not be doing the 03 and up cars. They say there is a good supply of 97-02 cars to warrant NOT doing it.
Perhaps some day I will get a older one.

I spoke to him as well, he had also said they wouldn't support newer LS1s in the past and then someone paid to have the software updated and now they apparently do. They just aren't going to fund it themselves and told me if I was willing to fund the effort. Given the ECU should be closer to Ford spec you'd think it would be pretty easy to translate. We'll see how it goes, I may end up funding it myself.

So what you essentially have is a rebodied Corvette, with a rear end, that you can shred. Why not buy a kit car? Sorry, but when it comes to mechanicals, I am kind of a purist. If you want a Corvette, you buy a Corvette. I hope the auction works out for you, but I saw a beautiful XJS with a Chevy lump go for next to nothing.....Good Luck....Mike

I'll let everyone else argue the relative merits of the LS1 engine, although the stick shift is definitely a nice add.

What looks best to me is the dash and console treatment. If I had not seen it, I doubt I would have thought it a good idea, but it is amazing. The contrast with the rest of the interior works very well.

My question is, after all that work and money why are you selling it? You will never get your investment back IMHO, so just drive the wheels off the thing.

Interesting! So can you shift forward without bashing your hand into the stereo? The bottle in the back is _____?

V8 manual transmission with jag styling.

More details....

Some additional description in the listing would help you
get a better price.

It's a good car for someone wanting the look, but afraid of
the Jaguar powertrain maintenance cost.

A used car dealer friend of mine and I went over your auction specifics, and this is what we came up with.

Basically what you have is a lease vehicle, with a couple of accidents, that has had 6 owners, and auctioned across the country, and has a negative Autocheck score, that needs an AC compressor installed, around $300 on the light side, and $6500 worth of Camaro drivetrain, where the entire Camaro wasn't worth but $4500, in average condition at auction price, according to a 2 year old NADA book. I go to auctions with this dealer friend, in both Florida, and Illinois, to inspect them, and get a little sun.

To get on, you have spent $25,700 just on parts. This has not counted your time and odds and ends, plus the price of the original car. On the plus side, it has good eye appeal, and the interior is beautiful.

The auction ends on Friday, and you have one $4000 bid. The 2000 XK8 convertible, with not as much curb appeal has a whole lot more bids, and has $50 more bid on it. If I were you, I would close the auction, and pay what Ebay penalizes you, or see if you could move it to another classification. I would list the car as a custom car, because Jaguar buyers want Jaguars as a rule. I think you would have a wider audience.

I don't really mean to paint such a negative picture, but the car is worth much more in parts, than what you are probably going to get as a whole. From what I see, you didn't put a reserve on the car either, so you get what you get. Just the guys in this forum would probably buy it up for parts, and get you more than what the auction will.

I would drive it until the wheels fall off, or part it out. Hope this advice helps....Be cool.....Mike

Agreed, at that price I was tempted to buy it for the parts. I just don't have the room. Still, $4K isn't bad for a car with a bunch of known problems, to get to the higher prices a lot of that would need to be fixed and then you might not find the one buyer that always wanted a Jag with an LS1. Good luck regardless!

If it was listed in the custom car section, with what he wants OBO, and no auction closing date you never know what will happen. It just looks kind of grim now....Mike

I would not mind the Vette power in the sleek XK8. Everyone has a Vette, very few have a xk8 with a nice and more reliable drive line. Is the XKR and XK8 rear ends the same? Still I would never drive the car to a point to kill a rear end.
I will do this swap some day with a busted up driveline old XK8.

I have to agree with Mike on the course of action to take in selling your car. There are a lot of *******ized conversions out there, but ones done correctly, like yours, are in the minority. As far as saleability goes, I can remember way back when Carroll Shelby put a small-block Ford V8 into a Sunbeam Alpine, and called it a "Tiger", followed by putting the same engine in an AC Acea sports car, and renamed it a "Cobra".

Seems to have worked out okay..............
