Air cleaner box mounting
 

All,

Does anyone have a picture of how the factory air cleaner box mounts to the car?

I appear to be missing a bolt and I looked at the parts manual. I suspect I need the intramount (EAC8310) and cap. Not sure if I also need the the grommet and bracket though.

Under the missing bolt seems to be a capped rubber bit straight to the car.

Mine was broken off, too, but the pieces were there, so I re-glued it. At the time, I found out they retailed for $65, so it was always going to be a home-made fix for me. The problem is that if you want to remove the air box, you cannot just apply torque to the nut as the torque gets applied to the rubber insert, and it just shears off. The base hex plate has to be held with a wrench and then the nut can be removed safely. Of course, that trick is figured out just as the part shears off :mad:. From memory, there is just a simple nut on that stud to hold the air box down.

Thanks, ordered the EAC8310. However, I'm not 100% sure I even have the bracket (njb3515ac), so I'd love to see pictures from an install.

Upon further review, my part sheared just as fmeetz said. It is an M6-1.0 thread pitch bolt.

You can probably fix this with a single bolt and a standoff for $3 at Home Depot. However, I ordered the part from Rock auto and bought the flange nut from HD for $.54.

These were substituted for the OEM mounts and have worked great for over a year. Lots less expensive.

In case anyone wants to do this with a single bolt. The EAC8310 is a total of 46mm in length (12mm top thread, 22mm standoff, 12mm bottom thread). The flange nut I used is a M6-1.0 with 10mm cap.

Using that, an M6-1.0x35mm bolt and a 22mm or 7/8" standoff should make this an easier in and out.

I'm debating pulling my box to install the correct part, or just using the bolt and standoff.

I used those on mine. Works fine :)
