Anyone install mesh grilles on XK8?
 

Saw an upper and lower mesh grill for my 2006 XK8, on Mina Gallery. Apparently they have some that can be installed w/o taking front bumper off. All I have to do is remove the plastic overriders and horizontal chrome bar.

Anyone have any experience with these?

I have no idea what installing the upper mesh grill involves, but the lower Mina mesh grille is held on by screws and L brackets. They're holding fine, but it's not the most ideal solution... but the lower grille just looks amazing to me... that's why I installed it! lol

If you look closely in the second picture, you can see the two screws near each bottom corner. There are two or three along the top edge. The L brackets are really small and the screws need to go through the plastic bumper. It doesn't feel all that secure, but it's stayed in...

It's holding up fine. The quality of the actual grille is very nice, it also has a matching rubber surround so it looks similar enough to the factory grille that it looks decent.

I did not know Mina had a lower mesh grille for XKR's. It looks nice. Have you ever parked too close to the car in front of you? After lightly touching the car in front of me with my mesh grille on my '05 XKR, it got slightly flattened by the event near the center where the underlyoing attach points for the front plate are. All manner of cajoling, rolling and pulling doesn't seem to be able to reform the mesh. I looked at the Mina and am glad to know it is good, but is there a trick trying to true up the mesh short of buying a new one? Even the Mina upper is $275.00..

Get a thick rubber mat and a rubber mallet? It shouldn't be too hard to get any deformities out, with a little practice.

I agree- it looks mean in spades. That is quite the efffect and might look good with the white ones and Salsa Red as well, but with Pacific blue you might go into that blue-black color-blind confusion thing men have and not be a s nice. I don't know- but these black ones sure look good, Thanks for the pic.

I actually have one of these in my garage which I would like to sell. Bought this and the exhaust for my XKR but decided to stay with the stock grill. I seem to recall there being two Mina grills for the top opening, one being easier to install than the other, and I purchased the easier one.

Let me know if you are interested in the grill. I am finally cleaning out the garage, and just listed my OEM rims for sale in a post in the classifieds.

I admit to not knowing how to do the pictures on this forum- I'vwe tried and failed. As a result, send pix of the grill to me at arliegreen@yahoo.com. It may be better for me to buy a new one than to try to beat out the one I have. there are two- one is as original, the other is flat, not convexly curved. I am more interested in the curved one that is like the original.

XK8 Mesh Grill Installation Option
 

I received my 3 piece grill yesterday. I went and crawled around under the car long enough to realize that I-do-not-like the L-bracket installation solutions offered. I don't want to see no screws in my grill, okay?
Here is my solution (well, mine and Evan Williams. If you don't know who Evan is, you don't drink cheap Bourbon). SPRINGS (or sprangs all we call 'em here in Georgia)!! Use springs with 'hooks' on both ends. (You figure out what length you need..should be different from top to bottom). Hook loop one on the existing grill 'chrome piece' or bumper, and the other on the grill at an appropriate place. Use springs with sufficient tensile to firmly hold the grill to the face of the bumper. Ace Hardware has a good selection. Just get these babies hooked top and bottom with as many as you feel necessary and, as my French girlfriend says, Wal-lah! (she's from GA too). I've not done this yet myself, but feel confident that it will be superior to anything California came up with. (Of course, we said that about the North, too... :(
