The XK models were and still are gorgeous automobiles with most owners agreeing that the X100 is more beautiful while the X150 is more capable. But they were always niche vehicles, are now technologically obsolete, and will remain underappreciated by the automotive masses. Try as he may, the author will not be able to increase their appeal....

For something that's unappreciated the value of the cars is shooting up.

Many an E type owner has learned his lesson. The 'I wish I had kept it' and 'I could have bought one cheap X years ago' are now looking at the X100. Buying them and enjoying the upward value. Some of the X100's now cost more than the later X150's.

I could now sell my 2003 XKR for around 8 times what I paid for it some 5 years ago. I know because I was offered exactly that in a car park not too long ago.

This is my little motor................

Personally I think these are beautiful cars with much more presence than the mass produced clones of today.

Frank,

Please notify the fellow who offered you 8 times what you paid for your XKR that I will gladly sell him my wife's 2006 XK8 Victory Edition for only 3 times what I paid for it back in 2012. That substantial savings will pay for the transport costs to the UK many times over....

Nice review - a beautiful car, well put together with good tech (for the time).

The XK unfortunately was released badly into the car market. The poor reliability reputation for Jag didn't help either when it came with competing against the likes of BMW and the so called luxury lines of the big Japanese 3 ie Lexus. The XK8 was not intended as a Sports car so the soft handling wouldn't have appealed to many, and the late arrival of the sportier XKR was just too late.

With X100s getting rarer, prices should appreciate, but prices are dictated by who's looking to buy. In today's world, repairing and restoring the X100 probably costs more than it's worth. That's not a good situation to be in, esp. as there are plenty of examples of good motors that are unloved and so are destined for the scrap heap.
