Atmospheric recovery tank
 

Howdy.
Does my 2006xk8 have this tank? Having cooling issues and can’t seem to locate it, if in fact, this model year has one.

Remove the right front plastic fender liner.

should have it and should find it behind front LH wheel after removing plastic wheel well shielding.

Open the Right side door. Look past the A pilar and hinge using a flash light in the dark helps when I'm checking coolant level. You can barley see it through the narrow slit.

Must be half full, Top up via the pipe that comes out the back of the expansion tank. Top up the expansion tank right to the top and dont take the cap off every day ..if the level falls the warning will come on the dash, If it falls half an inch the warning will come on.
What you need is a P10 Head Up Display showing the true engine temp about $30 from e bay. Not the GPS one the one that goes in the OBD port That temp gauge is another computer driven false gauge ,

Thanks. Saw it but can’t determine anything. Might be empty but no “low coolant” light is on

Without taking the well cover off, I can’t determine how full it is. If I overfill by your method, the atmosphere tank will expel it? Saw a YouTube video stating it would.

If everything is in order, the overfill will only be expelled the first time after fill, there after the level will be right.

As Baxtor suggests, fill the header tank in the engine bay to the top (the bottom of the filler neck) and run the car for a few days. When the engine is cold, check the level again. If it is still full to the bottom of the filler neck then it's all fine as the same volume of coolant which was pushed over into the atmospheric tank has been drawn back.
If the level has dropped in the header tank then some air has been sucked back from the atmospheric tank which means that the bottom of the tube in the atmospheric tank is not permanently below the level of the expelled coolant. Top up the header tank and repeat the process until the header tank maintains its level.
If you need to repeat this more that 2 or 3 times then you have a leak somewhere in the atmospheric tank system as the filler pipe should be close to the bottom of the tank so it doesn't take much coolant to keep it permanently submerged.
