Battery leak and destroyed $2000 worth of parts

Yep, you read that right. Freakin' battery leaked thru the ventilation hose and destroyed my security module and carbon cannister, which are directly below the battery.

So if you have a 2006 XK8 with the original battery, better check you trunk and below. I since have redirected the hose on the new battery.

What a fvked up design:icon_hunter:

That's a good point. I bet a lot of people don't bother to top off the OEM batteries and never pull the cover and look until it's time for a new one.

My OEM Battery is 12 years old and still going thanks to being kept on a CTEK when I'm not driving it. I'm going to check the drain while I'm doing fluid changes this winter.

Yep, these vented batteries combined with potential water leaks in the trunk make it mandatory to remove the trunk deck and visually inspect the trunk wells on a regular basis. I try to remember to do that every couple of weeks in both of our Jaguars when I'm going through my normal every weekend fluids & pressures checklist....
