Bird Chewed Thru Wiring...Not Sure what this wiring is for
 

We were away for a week or so for the holidays, and since I have a project going on in the garage, I had to leave the 01 XK8 convertible parked outside (the 06 XKR Victory Edition stored inside). While away, a bird (so I think due to the small pin feathers in with the leaves, twigs etc.) started a nest on the top of the passenger side wheel well and seems to have chewed through a wire (2 wires I believe) that is just to the side of the air filter (see photo).


Anyone know what these wires go to and how important is it I get this repaired. I can tell you that since returning from vacation and starting it the engine ran VERY roughly for a couple of minutes and then seemed to settle in. It did this a second and third time while out running some errands. And the check engine light is on now.

for the Flux Capacitor.

Hard to believe that isn't connected. On my 97 and a friends 00 that is the connection for the wheel speed sensor.

I stand corrected, thanks. Just took another look and it is indeed for the wheel speed sensor and mine is connected.

would a wheel speed sensor cause a rough running problem ??

Well as previously noted I don't know my head from my a**, but I would think he would have a ABS or Traction control fault. Looking at the photo it might look like someone bypassed the connector and straight wired the two wires together. Look at the black wire on the left, this looks like a splice has been done. This would explain why the sensor appearing to be disconnected is not causing a fault.

Ynotfl62, can you trace the wire where the connector is and see if it has been cut down stream?

Can't see a wheel speed sensor causing an issue with rough idle/running condition.

Looks as though your airbox mount is missing a nut too- tough bird!
