Bluetooth question
 

I finally got a cell phone (Samsung SCH-U550) that has bluetooth capability but I am still a bluetooth novice. I figured out how to link the phone to a Samsung bluetooth earpiece but was wondering if the phone is also linkable to the bluetooth in my 2005 XKR. The previous owner did not have the Jaguar bluetooth handbook but I downloaded from the JaguarUSA website. My specific phone was not included on the drop down list of models supported for the 2005 at the website (closest matches are U470 and U700).

I guess I can either try linking and see what happens or just go to the local Jaguar dealer for help? Any other advice?

Another question. Assuming the phone pairs okay with the car system, my understanding is that you can hear the calling party through the audio speakers. But what about my voice? Is there some microphone somewhere so that I can talk without having to hold the handset? If not, then what is the point. The Bluetooth handbook I downloaded from the Jaguar website is not entirely clear on this subject.

If you have the bluetooth system there will be a microphone to the right of the drivers sunvisor
It's kind of an oval piece of plastic with a couple of slits in it.

I don't see anything that looks like that. However, there are a bunch of buttons associated with the audio controls that also have little phone symbols on them. I just figured that meant that there were phone capabilities, but maybe I'm wrong.

All the head units have the phone buttons if you have bluetooth or not

Well I don't see anything like what is shown in your jpg. I guess I will just go ahead and try the pairing procedure that is written in the Bluetooth handbook I downloaded from the Jaguar website. I really cannot find much regarding if telephone features were a standard item on the XKR in 2005 or if this was some dealer-installed option or accessory.

If you don't have a microphone I doubt the car ishas the bluetooth module, It was not standard
for2006 I'm not sure about the 2005, I do believe that all the xkrs were prewired for bluetooth,
so all you would have to do is have the module installed.

The buttons on the dash are the same whether you have the installed phone or not. The phone system on the 05 XK's was using a technology that is no longer used by the major cell providers. If you have a phone installed, there will be a microphone on your header and there will be a phone cradle inside the center armrest. There are different versions of the main control box and the latest bluetooth module requires it to be one of the later ones. This is explained in detail on the installation manual available for download from Jaguar. There are also more than one different version of the bluetooth module. The latest should pair up with most current versions of bluetooth capable phones. Once paired, you can download your address file and it will integrate with your system through the sound system. As far as I can determine, the latest module is #C2S-49706. This is just the bluetooth module though and requires that you already have the phone system installed.

It sounds like if the car presently does NOT have any of the phone equipment/modules, then it could be a considerable expense to have this stuff installed? I guess that would be a dumb expense given the fact that I already have a bluetooth headset for my phone so maybe I should forget about the expense and hassle of making the car a bluetooth device.

By the way, where did you find the part number for the module? Is there some website that lists part numbers for Jaguar stuff?

I have the T305, but of course I also have a Motorola phone. I think these will work with other Bluetooth products as well.

I run the rebuilding department at Coventry West. I found the installation guide on the Jaguar Download section for manuals and called the dealer we use and told them I wanted the bluetooth module. They looked it up and sold me the latest version.

My solve to needing Bluetooth stereo. I read forum posts and many websites looking for a solution. I was ready to pull my stereo and send it out for modifications. My primary goal was music without the hokie cassette tape with wires and maintain factory appearance.
my car is a 2000 XKR convertible with factory 6 cd changer

1. I purchased discountcarstereo.com application pictured. A2DIY-JAG98. They have several different packages depending on options and vehicle application.
2. I purchased a few options the Bluetooth remote, which works but not necessary.
3. optional USB C charger, is a separate unit and I decided to not wire it in as my 12v cigar lighter plug has 2 charging ports and works just fine
4. initially I had some engine noise (very faint) but I installed a $10 noise suppressor from Amazon and it took care of the issue
5. the hands free phone and microphone work, but the audio is very low. If your purchasing this for the phone it may not be the best option
6. the audio for the stereo is very good, it’s at least as good as my late model cars given the limitations of 2000 technology in the stereo

the installation was very easy and once I found the routing for the cable everything went very fast. I transitioned from the trunk using the vents between the trunk and the cabin area. You need the top up to access the carpets behind the seat to fish the cable through. Once it’s through you can replace the carpet and lower the top to finis the installation.

i didn’t have to remove my cd changer, I just reached through and grabbed the cable. I was able to make the necessary connection and route the cable behind the rack, over the top of the gas tank and into the car.

cables are routed behind back seat and under the rear seat cushion and into the wire chase to the center console. Following the instructions I tapped into the cigar lighter 12v wire back at the plug.

again, my intent was Bluetooth music and I achieved that and I am very happy. Good luck hope this helps someone

How is handsfree working for you? I can barely hear calls and I understand the quality hasn’t been so good for those on the other end of the call. Music is working well. I’m using an iPhone.

The volume in the car, even when parked is very very low even when i have the input volume (iPhone) all the way up. The caller on the other end doesnt seem to have a problem hearing me. I installed the microphone using the supplied double stick tape on the plastic overhead reading light housing up next to the windshield.

Pro-tip, place it inside the storage compartment instead of beneath it. The transmission will overheat it and the bluetooth will shut off until it cools.
