Boot Is Open ... No , It's not .

Ever have this problem before ? It can be very annoying when you know your boot ( or trunk for those of us on this side of the pond ) is really closed . You can't open it with the push button or remotely with the key fob , you have to get out and use the key and that's nothing compared to the constant warning message on your panel . The good news is , it's an easy fix .

Without doing any research on the problem beforehand I was convinced that the issue had something to do with that little spring loaded button on the underneath of the trunk lid , the one to the right of the trunks latch . Nope , that's simply a spring loaded button to assist the opening of the trunk .

The problem is a loosely mounted switch connected to the latch mechanism itself . I removed the inner trunk panel that covers the latch mechanism and removed the switch from its mounted position by applying a little upward pressure and it pops right out . The switch has a cap that will open for an easy inspection .

Thinking maybe the button was sticking I applied a tiny bit of dielectric grease to the ramp of the plastic button .

After re- attaching the switch to the latch I found the problem did not go away . This is when I noticed how loosely the switch was attached . It had lots of "wiggle room" . This was just enough room that the button would not fully engage the electric actuator . I put a zip strap on it , tightened it up and the problem is gone . Two months in and the issue has not returned .

Nice catch!

Nice fix! The infamous microswitch problem with the boot latch!

For anyone else, if this microswitch does work, and you do still have a problem, then check the diode connected to it -located in a cable bundle just above the battery.
