Brake pedal feedback and poor braking, burnt fluid smell
 

Greetings Fellow Jag Enthusiasts!

After trying to resolve this issue searching these hallowed halls yet again, I have had to resort to requesting assistance. Sorry but I really want to keep this cat on the road.

In the past I have recently replaced brake pads and rotors, cleaned the wheel speed sensors, checked the sensor lines and contacts, removed and inspected the ABS control module and pins look fine (no soldering required), bled the brakes. (I was having ABS/Trac Control Not Available warning light issues intermittently).

Right now, the ABS/Trac Control Not Available light is off but I am having brake pedal feedback (kind of pulsing but not quite), a somewhat soft pedal, poor brake performance, and a smell of burnt brake fluid immediately after stopping (eventually). Fluid reservoir does not appear depleted and no signs of a fluid leak. Obviously concerned for my safety and the car's so any suggestions as to more likely culprit are appreciated.

There's a hundred different things that could cause this problem. I doubt you are smelling 'burnt brake fluid' as this would involve a leak with the fluid touching a hot friction surface.

Start by bleeding all four calipers. Follow this by inspecting the four sets of pads and examining the rotor friction surface on both sides of the rotr, looking for contamination.

I have no personal experience with my jag displaying those symtoms. But i have had other cars that would give the soft pedal when the flexible brake lines were failing due to age. The hose is made of several layers and the innermost liner can fail and create issues. Hope this helps

Hi Guys, Turns out it was without question my ABS. Stomping on the brakes would finally get the ABS light to come on and disable the system and voila! feedback went away. Now to determine if there is a hairline crack in the module pins that I missed or possibly replacing it over the winter. :-( $$$$$
