Brembo brakes on regular 2002 XKR

Can the regular front brakes on 2002 base XKR be replaced with the Brembo set that is standard on 2002 XKR100 or '06 XKR Victory ed?

Regards.

I believe that I have seen a conversion kit around out there, but it was pricey. Did you search the forum? In short it can be done, but not sure how cost effective.

The other thing to be aware of is wheel size. I know 18" rims will not fit on my XKR VE over the Brembo setup.

Its not cost effective to upgrade an 2002 XKR with Brembo,it about $3000.00+ ,20inch wheels and tires another $3-5K.Buy a newer XKR with Brembo already on it.

The cheaper way to upgrade your car is to replace your rotors and pads and paint the calipiers.

The brakes on the XKR are great brakes and with different pads and rotors you will notice a difference.Do a search on brakes and you will get plenty of opinions.

caliper cover??

brake caliper cover

I think org. brake system on XKR works great... and I just want to have more racing "looks" on the wheels. Since, I have custom 20" rims... "org. brake caliper" didn't look right on "R" performance car and I don't want to spend a lot of money on upgrading brakes system that works great! (using paint on the caliper looks even worst on my rims...) my friend recommend the "brembo brake caliper cover" for my car.

It's made from "high temperature residence plastic" that covers the org. caliper... I use two small screws to hold the caliper cover and it's easy to take it off for brake service

When I have extra "$15,000" for real Brembo brake system... I will love to do it...

however, I am getting the same looks for less then $350... ( I think it as body kits for the brake system)

I have not had anyone notice, it's only caliper cover... even looking at it very close up...
( I just order drill rotor disc for XKR for $550 with pad... I think it help give more "R" performance look for the car)

let me know.. if, you guys want to see more photos....

I have seen the covers on ebay,My feeling about putting those on is its like dressing up as a crossdresser"looks okay but when you get into bed you find out it aint the real thing" I would rather see real Jag calipers painted that fake brembo covers. Plus the proportion size of the cover is too big for the rotors, any of us that would see the size difference would know that they were wrong. What do others think?

Yes, I know... and I agree with you...

but, it looks much better then paint job to me... and you can get the right size to fit perfect with brake rotor disc....

I decide to spend money on the upgrading the exhaust system first (MacLeod Performance X-Pipe Exhaust system) which will give much better performance to the car....and using the "Performance Ceramic Brake Pads" on org brakes caliper works great! ( this car is my 4th Jaguar.. and I never had any issues with brakes)

I do agree with you... it not real... But, it is a temporary option to" painting the brake caliper" (Since, I had great experience with it.. I am recommending it.... be sure to buy the higher price product and tell them your rim and rotor size.. I give them.. wrong rotor size on my XKR 2002)

I think of It as style upgrade for the brake caliper (just like body kits, one piece mesh grill, Spoiler, Mesh Hood Louvers...)

After, I finish upgrading the exhaust system and drill rotor disc.. I will upgrade the brake caliper to support the performance on the car...

Who said you have to spend many thousands on a Brembo upgrade? I upgraded my stock brakes to Brembos for a total cost of.........$660.30. That's with everything; all 4 calipers, rotors, pads, stainless brake lines, brake fluid, tapping threads, caliper bolts. Just the calipers, rotors and pads cost me $420 from a junkyard off a 05 XKR with 20k miles.

And you DON'T need bigger wheels. The stock 18's will fit with spacers.

workoutman0011 04-16-2010 11:51 AM

What junkyard did you go to because the only one that I know for sure that ever had them was coventry West and they want about $1500 and up for just the calipers.

Dan R 04-16-2010 12:23 PM

I would be worried about heat build up with the caliper covers.

H20boy 04-16-2010 12:36 PM

I think they look pretty good, only true XKR (brembo) owners would be able to tell they were only upon seeing it.

Steve, this is from your earlier post, you forget the $300.00 for spacers:

I had the same issue when I upgraded to Brembos on my XJR. I used 20 mm spacers to clear my stock wheels. All you probably need is 20mm per side. There is no issues with turning or handling. Of course the perfect scenerio would be to have wheels that fit fine without spacer but the spacers shouldn't have a negative affect.

You don't use longer studs with these spacers. The spacer bolts on to the hub with the included nuts and then you bolt the wheel onto studs that are fixed into the spacer with your lug nuts.

If you want to go this route, I have two pairs of H&R 20mm spacers for sale. One pair is brand new and unused and the other pair has under 1000 miles on them. They clear the front Brembos by at least 3/8 inch and give the car a perfect stance. I could sell them for $300 shipped.

Here's how they look like to give you an idea how they mount:
