Butterfly by-pass valve for Supercharger

Cleaning the internals of the butterfly by-pass valve for the Supercharger, very dirty inside. When having got the components fairly clean I spot a "X" mark on the brass valve itself that I didn't spot before removing the valve. As far as I can tell the valve seems to be perfectly symmetric the X aside. Anyone who knows if the X should be pointing towards the single tube side or the double tube side of the valve assembly?

It's been so long since I had this part off I can't say as I remember.

But I notice in your picture there is a dark line on the X side which makes me think that might be the side that is supposed to face the shaft.

the valve actually slides into the shaft completely, there is a slot in the shaft so both faces of the "coin" faces the shaft.

I tried it both ways now but cannot tell any difference in how the valve operates. In front of my eyes that is, will be hard work to try it running the engine, disassemble everything change the fitment of the, try again and so on.

Discovered now that the valve never was able to clos properly, and that should cause a loss in boost? Turned the adjust screw a few turns and now the valve is able to close

the "x" faces towards the o-ring gasket, single tube exit. So in your first picture of the valve, flip it so the long side of the triangle is at the bottom. Now your viewing the hole where the "x" goes, the x should be facing the right hand side. Source: currently have my XKR apart and that's how mine* is oriented.

Thanks! Thats actually how I left it after trying different ways :icon_biggrin:

My XKR is apart topside and the bypass valve has the butterfly oriented with the X face on the single inlet side.

Seems decided then.

Is the actuator "serviceable"? If so, what should be done?

My XKR blew a head gasket and I am very OC about putting nasty parts back on, so, I’ve cleaned everything up. My bypass valve had the same issue regarding incomplete closure which was remedied by backing off the trim screw a turn or so.
