Car honks steadily and engine tries to turn over

Update on the 2000 xk8 moonpetal38 is my wife . Her car won't go out of park so I checked the number 7 fuse. it was blown so I too the k fuse out. just curious i cranked car and all of a sudden the starter keeps turning over horn blows steadily . it won't stop till i disconnect battery i put a fuse back in and it still does the same thing engine turning over etc . also there is smoke from inside car ...... help please i am baffled

I think the history is important here...see my answer under XK Won't come out of park

Okay i found the grounded out wire on the visor. so now it still cranks steadily and horn blows. do you think it might be the bpm

WhiteXKR Jan 17, 2012 07:32 PM

Do you see any evidence of charring? If there was smoke there may be other wire damage somewhere.

WhiteXKR Jan 17, 2012 07:34 PM

Check the other BPM fuses besides #7 in the driver side fusebox:

#5, driver side fusebox
#7, Passenger side fusebox

i replaced #7 it was blown but the saga still continues. idid not see any charring though.

WhiteXKR Jan 17, 2012 07:54 PM

Check #7 on the OTHER side of the dash fusebox also. Which direction did you see the smoke from?

hjacobs47 Jan 17, 2012 08:07 PM

ok the drivers side left 5 good 7 was blown pass sign 7 good. the smoke was coming out of window it was dark so i could not determine the direction but it was electrical smell

Chances are the BPM is blown. The BPM does directly control the starter relay. Here is a link to a similar experience: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...nt-work-53809/

is the bpm located behind the glove box. and do we need to find one that matches our vcat code. mine is 163 and i have no idea on where to find one

What is a bpm?

Here where I live it is this...

Badly Planned Module...:o....whenever there was a function that the designers did know where else to put it went in the BPM. Sometimes also known as Body Processor Module.

I like your BPM better.

Sounds bloody awful. Do I -we- have a lot of these BPM things?

Our BPM is amazing. There are a lot more clips on youtube, with some great footage.

Just one BPM with 104! wire connections in the car. It just strikes me as a bizarre design that the same BPM that controls the vanity mirror lights also controls the starter relay just to name a couple of the totally diverse things that it does.

Still love the car, just an endearing quirk.:icon_denk:

Most modern cars have a similar module. In GM vehicle it is called the BCM.

Thanks to all those who helped my husband figure this issue out. We got the BPM in today and all is well in Jagland. Also thanks to Butch from Florida for helping get the BPM in a timely manner. The cost of it was half the cost of the next cheapest place. Yeah!!! my baby is up and running
