The cat is out !

Started the first turn after almost 5 months of winter hibernation. Runs perfectly :) Over the winter I installed new Welsh poly upper shock mounts and new lower shock bushings; new hand brake shoes ( $16 from Rock Auto !! ) and new rear pads. While doing this I noticed the LHS handbrake cable was fraying a bit so I replaced it. Absolutely ZERO coolant loss since I replaced the octopus and header tank last yer so I decided not to do the valley hoses for now. I do LOVE this car

Another Cat prowls the street

Glad to hear that your X100 is out of hibernation, and all is well.

Time to get some miles in, heads turns, and your grin back.

First good run today after a winter of fixing. Both tensioners, transgo mod. Filter changes, fluids. Front wheel bearings, upper shock mounts front and back. Cooling hoses, including octopus, valley. Brake discs, pads. Rear shockers. Sway bar links.

But flawless. Better handling than my previous 94 XJS. Great power, stopping, excellent handling.

My expectations have been exceeded. Thanks Gus, Reverend Sam and countless others.

Time to get some miles in, heads turns, and your grin back.

Wonderful looking car. What wax do you use?

Ltd 05-04-2019 09:25 PM

Maguiars NXT Generation Tech wax.

Thank you. The car had badly swirled paint due to automatic car washes, I assume. Looks great now Grin !

I am brand loyal to Zymol but that certainly is impressive. Swirl marks are usually caused by not clay barring a finish before waxing. Then you're just rubbing the surface contaminants into the clearcoat.

Barry,

How much effort was involved in replacing your frayed handbrake cable? And where were the frayed spots located?

Glad to hear that your car is in top shape now....

The steps I took to achieve this marvelous finish:
wash
clay bar- Maguiars and Mothers
Maguiars 105 cutting compound
maguiars 205 polish
2 coats NXT tech wax Maguiars
i used a DA for cutting and polishing

I am just super thrilled with the Sapphire Blue Mettalic color, really shines through now.

@Jon89 If you have the hand brake shoes off the car the cable is not hard to replace. Mine was getting corroded/ frayed at the hub where the cable enters. A previous repair ( not mine ) had not properly replaced the plastic clip which holds the cable to the back of the hub and moisture had got in. The worst bit is getting the brake shoes on an off. the rest is easy.

Thanks for the tips, Barry. I will check the condition of my wife's 2006 XK8's handbrake cable when I do the 120,000-mile service later this year....
