Default check out a car in Florida?

Is there anyone near this town that could look at this:

Buick : LeSabre Buick : LeSabre | eBay

I've sent a couple of messages that went unanswered. The $2500 deposit by bank transfer is a bit excessive to me, and the asking price is actually kindsa low....so I'm suspicious. But, this is one of my favorite cars, and I'm looking to sell my Mustang anyway.

I would be cautious. My buddy was bidding on an 2010 Mercedes AMG something or other on Ebay and won it for 6K under KBB private party money. He was contacted by the seller who wanted 3K wire transfer within 24 hours (said so in the ad). Funny thing was the car was located right in Phoenix where my buddy lives so he emailed and said he would come over, they could go to the bank and he would provide full $45K payment on the spot. He never heard back from the seller then got an email from Ebay stating the ad was a scam and someone had hacked the sellers account and used a stolen ad to list it.

I wouldnt do anything until you got the owners phone number and talked to him. Then I would ask for an additional picture not shown be emailed to you to prove he owns the car. If there is any of the I live here the car is over there BS I would pass.

Right from their ad:

CALL US AT ***386-290-4643*** PRIOR TO BIDDING.
(IF WE DO NOT RECIEVE A CALL WE WILL
REMOVE BID AND BLOCK BIDDING)

Howdy Folks:
Regardless of if this is a scam, the price is pretty much what the buyer is willing to spend.
To keep this on topic, I did replace my 15 year project Skylark with my XKR. My starting asking price was $23,500, but over a couple years at Streetside, I finally sent it to auction and I sold it for less than half. Cash in hand talks. No regrets and I did find that the buyer did flip it at I assume a profit in a few months... Still no regrets. I think everyone involved is happy. I hope you get a good deal on the Buick you want.

It just seems to smell funny, and wanting a phone call just to make a bid doesn't make me feel better because that's also odd. The asking price is far below what these 1961 convertibles have been selling for in (in this alleged condition) over the past 10 years. I like this particular body style and let one slip away at only $3500, but that was in 1985.

This is a factory a/c car with the original (albeit inefficient and probably not working) compressor/generator components. Not many other options, though; repaint, nice interior, seems to be well taken care of. Even in today's up and down market it should be worth a lot more than they are asking. But....I have seen auctions from hacked accounts in the past on ebay, and for some reason it smells like one. I'll ask for new pics and see what happens.

Hmmmmmm...user ID changed March 22, 2012; before that all home electronics and pawnshop type stuff under different name.

But, where is this town? Anyone nearby if it is a good seller? I'd pay for an inspection. AHhhh....just north of Daytona Beach.

I have a friend that lives in Ormond (I used to have family there but they're gone now.) She's not a car person by any means and although I hate to make her appear mercenary, but if she were to verify the car and dealer, etc. would you consider making it worth her time? Just a way to sweeten the pot if I ask her...
