convertible top pump
My convertible top pump leaks, is there a rebuild or seal kit available?
Where is it leaking? Photo possible?
I don't believe that I have heard of an internal pump leak. All have been associated with the external connections.
Thanks, it was actually a line leaking and running down the pump, has anyone built a better mousetrap yet? These lines really look like the weak link in the chain.
The hoses do not like being twisted or moved around. Has the pump been moved? Is it the hose set on the open trunk side of the pump or on the fender side?
Its on the fender side and yes I did move the pump looking for the leak, turns out the hose had blown out of the fitting, I was able to hold it on long enough to get the back windows up but now need a new hose. My question is: does anyone make a better hose? It seems alot of people have problems with these hoses. Is there an aftermarket hose that has proven stronger? I plan to keep this car and only want to do this once.

We made a hose set for the roof latch but we were not having problems with the rams/lift cylinder hoses until recently. To answer your question no I have not seen nor did we make them to replace the ram hoses. I think right now that hose set can only come from Jag or a Jag parts distributor. If you look on the forum under vendors they can help you.

The hose that came apart is on the fender side and goes forward from the tee, the 2 hoses that go toward the front of the car are also covered with a cloth braid, I assume these are the ones for the latch. Is this correct? Thanks for the info.

On one side of the pump there are 4 hoses, 2 tees. These go to the rams.
On the other side there are 2 hoses, no tees. These go to the latch. Did I read this right ... you were able to run the pump for a short time while physically holding the broken connection together? (2 man job, no?) The hose that separated from its fitting: what does the end look like ... what sort of condition is it in? |
Does the hose look like this that is going forward http://www.gusglikas.com/AutoRepairNewHydHose.htm
the hoses with the braid are going forward, it does look like that but it is not a stainless braid, the end of the hose is in good condition but it did blow out of the fitting
Just a thought, why couldn't you use Goodridge braided stainless brake lines? I've been using them on motorcycles for years and never saw one fail. What type of threads are on the Jaguar hoses? NPT or ?
The rams have special connectors on the rams and on the right side they have electrical contacts incorporated in the connectors. Along with that they are metric with odd ball connectors getting a replacement is out of the question.
Gus, are you telling me the hoses have some sort of wire in them and conduct electricity? I sent an email to Goodridge to find out if they have ever been asked to make these hoses.
The entire system is metric with the exception of the new latch hoses you have that were changed with the connectors at the pump and latch. On the ram/lift on the right it has two connector top and bottom that have electrical switches that are critical to the roof operating that makes replacing them an impossible task.
