Convertible Top Resistor Install
https://photos.app.goo.gl/BYoFJ6CodWBAmVzY7 My first project on the XKR. Many thanks to Dennis07 for the great write up. Ordered the resistor on ebay. Put the the harness together per instructions in just a few minutes and plugged it in. Top went down perfectly and on the first try. Rarely (read never) does a project come together so quickly and work so well I thought. Then I tried to raise the top. Nothing. No pump sound and the top did not move. Oh well here we go again. Took the harness out restored the plugs as original and the top came up as normal. Swapped the harness back into the connector on the opposite set of contacts. Same result. Down but no up. Here is the part where I pat myself on the back for once. When I bought my resistor on ebay I actually bought two “just in case”. I don’t usually do stuff like that because I assume things will work as advertised. I pulled the first resistor out and did a continuity check on it. Nothing. Dead. Checked the other one and it was good. Put it all back together and now the top goes down and up too! I’m sure my hydraulic lines will appreciate it. |
Nice clean installation. Just one thought ... it looks like one of the hoses may be touching the resistor, or close to it. You want to avoid that since the resistor gets pretty hot .
Over the years I have come to believe that while pressure reduction helps, equally important in keeping original hoses alive is how we deal with outside air temperature ... trying to avoid getting the hoses too hot, and not operating the system when they are hot. Good luck. |

Super easy and works great. Hardest part is finding a .2 amp 100 watt resistor online. I bought 2 and one was no good. Once you get the right working resistor the rest is easy peasy. |

I posted this in another topic yesterday so here I go again. My resistor has two terminals on each end but your photos appears to have one on each end. Am I missing something?
